Just a little hunch I have following some info.

It's by no means certain
Nothing is ever certain, but the football department has its targets and is working hard to get them. That might bear some fruit soon.

COSU seem to want value for money, and the football department (after some recent misses in the transfer market) don't want to bring anybody in who doesn't fit the preferred style of play and club ethos/culture, and/or anybody who ends up being the wrong fit and adversely affects the budget in the summer and next season (thus potentially hamstringing themselves if they want to make more wholesale changes in the summer).

They know who they want, though, and don't appear to be in the mood to compromise at the minute. If the deal isn't right at this precise moment, they may wait until the summer and perhaps try for a short-term solution for the second half of this season. I guess that crossroads will come at some point where they may have to say "ok, we'll revisit the primary target in the summer because his club isn't playing ball, and we'll move onto this target to cover us for the second half of the season".

The impression I get is that that is the only compromise we might see. So any comparisons with the volume of players that other clubs in the division have signed this month are likely moot......because, notwithstanding the possibility that we could have been in for one or two of them and missed out, most of them weren't on our list. The ones that are on our list appear to be being pursued.

And that I believe is exact the right approach for the club to take.

Even if we do sign an attacking midfielder, Maher will drop Coker. No way is he leaving out Miley or Husin.

He already has KAF, but doesn't use him.

Apart from the games which he had left out Miley, Husin and Bridge (who is another not reaching the heights).

It’s laughable to suggest he never drops them, as he clearly does. Whether it’s as much as some people want, who knows.

Which is very much a sensible long term approach- no panic and an approach based on the fact the current management team are going nowhere. Never quite sure what “value” means- it could mean Poundland or it could mean Waitrose…

Husin and Bridge have made the most appearances for Southend this season, 26 and 27 respectively, with Taylor and Ralph also on 26. Not much evidence of being dropped.

My main concern is the "preferred style of play" bit as at present the "style" is god awful and dull. If we are looking to find players to play that but better than we do, even if we win it will be dull.

You only have to look at the bench on Saturday to see evidence of Bridge being dropped.

Also, rather than putting up half truths, why not look at the fact that Husin has only started 21 matches and Bridge 22, which is behind Ralph, Taylor & GSM and Bridge is level with Collin, who people say has been dropped. That is just league matches.

Plenty of evidence of both being dropped….

I don't recall many people complaining when we played that style fairly successfully last season, were essentially a top 7-level team, and scored 70 league goals in the process?

I find it incredibly hard to believe that what we are witnessing at the moment is how the coaching team wants us playing. I also find it hard to believe that the players are coached to be "boring" or "negative", or to "play sideways and backwards", or to be low-scoring. Confidence plays a huge part, as does the fact that we are now missing some pace and quality. They deserve the opportunity to have a bit of a rebuild and to try to make a success of their chosen identity.

That's not to say that some criticism isn't warranted, or that a tough decision won't have to be made if the ship isn't turned around, but hopefully a few decent additions this month and then a wider rebuild over the summer will bear fruit.

Parallel universe. Missing one or two games is hardly being dropped and Bridge was 'dropped' for half a game last saturday!

Some decent and informative stats there. My point is that people like Morton in particular who has played far better than the likes of Brdige and Husin hasn’t had the same starting time. I do find that odd and does stink of old boys club with Maher picking players out of form and not giving others a fair chance. Gus since missing Rochdale due to suspension has been average at best. Wind has started what 4 games? Of course it’s all about opinions but it doesn’t seem that Maher is giving some players a fair crack at the moment but also his reluctance to change the system is also puzzling
