Look, we are working on it, but it’s difficult. It has to be the right player and the right temperament. Things take time and January is not always the easiest month to get players in. We are constantly working but nothing is close yet
Plus they'd only sit on the bench anyway. Same as Kendall did for a few weeks.

Any player signing now must see us as a steppingstone or pay day as they must clearly see we have no appetite or ambition to get promoted this season, maybe not next or who knows when after that? You can offer facilities and training grounds but we want the hungry players that are looking to move on and up in their career. We ain't offering that.

And potentially feeding the management team to the baying mob of 1300 angry fans come 4:45 Saturday afternoon. That's where I do have bit of sympathy for Maher as he hasn't exactly been backed during the transfer market.
Whether Maher has been backed or not. This squad are better than what theyve shown this season. there are so many players off it at the moment yet he keeps picking the same players. I can take losing a football match, but the manner of defeat Saturday was alarming and the lack of fight was there for all to see. We hardly laid a glove on a Barnet side who hadnt won in 5 games. I dont agree that this squad is light on quality. Weve seen enough of these players this past few years to know they are good for this level. The likes of Morton, Wind, Keenan, Waldron arent being given a fair crack at it either. We are not a good side at the moment but sometimes just simple tweaks make a difference but Mahers persistence of keep playing Miley, Noor, Bridge, Gus to name four is bizarre to say the least. Im a huge Morton fan and for me this season has been our best midfielder and his partnership with Coker is probably the best of the midfield. Morton on here has regularly got glowing reviews and in some matches MOM yet Maher has him in and out the team. I spoke to his wife on Saturday and she said he is very down as works hard in training does everything required yet gets over looked.

I watched Everton yesterday ( i have a soft spot for them through my dad). The football under Dyche was dreadful, backwards, sideways, not scoring goals, trying to win games 1-0 or draw 0-0 away etc. Moyes comes in and in one week gets them playing on the front foot, moving the ball quicker, less passes etc and the result they went after Spurs and were 3-0 up at HT. Theyve now scored 18 goals in the league this season, a sixth of them came yesterday. the point is that its the same squad of players but a slightly different approach from a new coach has made a difference.

Do we need to add to the squad of course we do, its small in comparison to other NL teams however i dont believe it will change the way Maher chooses to play and set up. It’s so engrained in the squad now that it’s hard to change. Moncur the first few games looked lively and maybe could change things moving forward and our attacking play yet in the matter of weeks he went into his shell and we never saw much positive from him. he goes off to Ebbsfleet and by all accounts is playing some great football and already scored 2 goals in 3 games. Is that a coincidence?

If we play at Dagenham this Saturday like we did this weekend we will likely lose and by a similar score line. Kev and the players then have to walk back towards and under the stand that we will be housed in. Im not one for throwing abuse, i dont see it achieves much but there will be many that will and i wont blame them if they choose to do so.

Good post with some valid observations. Of course according to some Maher can do no wrong but it's there to see - there's a mentality issue, we aren't on the front foot anywhere near enough and playing with the energy and swagger we can do. Also yes, certain players seem to get picked regardless of form. So Kev does need to take some responsibility. It could get nasty at Daggers - I'm not one for booing or shouting abuse either, but I do fear things could escalate significantly if we turn in another performance like Saturday.

That is, it’s not a surprise that Maher lose the dressing room. It’s an disgrace to leave Morton on the bench and keep picking 3 useless midfielders together.

We need a new manager with different approaches going forward and I reckon we will be enjoying our football, win or lose.

I agree with a lot you have said. I do think Kev stifles the life and natural ability of our players by making them stick to his failing ways and rigid set up. He IMO needs to swallow his pride and realise himself it is just not working and change things or I fail to see how we as a team improve at all.

So I used the very accurate, reliable and definitely not bull**** method of football manager to find our Cardwell/Pepple replacement. Requirements were:

- Good acceleration and pace
- Strong
- Good jumping reach and heading
- At least 6’1”

Filtered out anyone who is unrealistic (for various reasons) and it threw up some interesting names.

Potential permanent signings:

Luke Charman
Joe Quigley
Aaron Jarvis
Andre Godfrinne
Bartosz Cybulski
Levi Amantchi
Callum Kealy
Jordan Greenidge
Jahmari Clarke
Djavan Pedro

Potential loan signings:

Joe Gbode
Micah Mbick
Ben Beresford
Layton Love
Emmanuel Ilesanmi

Andre Godfrinne is 22 and a free agent after leaving Bishops Stortford. In real life he doesn’t look great, but FM seems to really rate him.

Bartosz Cybulski is also 22, 6’5” and playing for Spalding. Again, FM seems to rate him highly.

Not in any way suggesting this counts for anything. Just thought it was interesting to see what FM thinks and to see some different names!
I’ll give it to FM… Aaron Jarvis from Yeovil looks like he could be a decent Cardwell replacement.

- 26 years old
- 17 goals in 40 NL games for Torquay 2 seasons ago
- 8 goals in 26 games this season
- 6’2”
- scores with his head
- looks fairly strong
- good feet and looks mobile

He also gets bonus points as he looks a bit like Harry if you squint. Under contract until 2026 so would require a fee.

Maybe they don’t want to give Maher anymore funds to get new players and will see how he goes in the next couple of games. I did hear they spoke to Neil Harris the other week and said if things don’t improve he’s 1st choice for the job.
I dont watch a lot of Championship football but know others do including Ben (my son). He said that Millwall were boring to watch and lack a goal threat. Im not sure on that basis he would be the right choice. in saying that i dont know who would be. Id take Dean Brennan from Barnet but thats never going to happen although i know he is very critical of their fan base or lack of it at times so we might be an attractive proposition

snap mate - or (it won't happen obviously) Paul Cook - always been an admirer of his

Well COSU so far have kept or are working on the promises made at the Cliffs. One thing Justin didn't promise was promotion this season. The Club is being rebuilt from the bottom up. Justin spoke about a sustainable Football Club and to achieve that we have to get to the EFL. This will enable the Academy to reopen COSU know that. They have budgeted to make a loss in each of the next 5 years, it has been suggested that the deficit will be around £2 million for this season.

I did part read an interesting article in the I Paper last week. Wycombe Wanderers now have a very wealthy owner and he also vowed to rebuild the Club from the bottom up. The first major improvement a new and fully equipped Training Ground.
As you say, Wycombe now have a wealthy owner. If you look at league tables at all levels of football the one consistency that those near the top have in the vast majority of cases is a wealthy owner(s). Trying to be sustainable and successful in football is an extremely difficult task. Not impossible but good luck to those that try.

Kev has been flexible in the past and did change things up during a match. I just don't understand why he's stopped doing that. Clear as day on Saturday that changes needed to be made at h/t, but he just replaced Ralph at LWB with Bridge.

It all seems a bit defeatist and depressed to be honest, almost as if we'd already accepted the loss.

It’s feels as if he is trying to prove a point to the owners rather than being the head coach and winning games.

Maybe what is wrong he should be picking the team or formation and instead be a first time coach and give it to one of the others for a while
