Transfer News and Gossip Transfer Rumours Thread 2024/2025.

Transfer news
I really think COSU will play down their ability and budget in the transfer market, Justin has indicated as much in interviews and rightly so.

We don't know their intentions and how much they can back Kev, Maher himself said he was frustrated with the leaked targets so all in all, it might seem quiet but this is expected until something is more or less official.

As for COSU, we can only judge based on history:
* Saved the club and spent millions without owning.
* Listening to fans. Example - providing the north bank as an option.
* Many improvements off the pitch in a very short amount of time.
* As for transfers, the likes of Josh Walker, Bonne and Moncur were big signings at the time with Championship and lower league EFL experience. We also paid £ for lower league talent like Waldron and Crowther (highly related at the time)

Two words with regards to recruitment, TRUST and PATIENCE.

As for COSU, they've been spot on so far with many things, future looks good.
Don’t let facts get in the way

Remaining in the NL guarantees non sustainability. Support will inevitably drift away, especially if the dire negative, pedestrian style of play produced by Maher & Co is not replaced by a more progressive coaching team soon. Lack of entertainment value coupled with lower mid table mediocrity is a recipe for disaster
Or look at it the other way. If we can become sustainable in this league, we'll be in a very good position when we get promoted given the increase in revenue from being in the EFL.

Sustainability is a myth in this division and the longer we are stuck in it the worse it will be. Also, the longer the present coaching regime is in charge the chances of promotion will rapidly recede.

Sustainability is a myth until Roots Hall is generating income outside of matchdays, regardless of what league we’re in.

Being in the EFL will help the short term finances to some extent, and is obviously what we all want as fans, but it’s not what is going to make us sustainable in the long run.

I am starting to fear that I may never live to see us back in the League again. Yet, in the grand scheme of things, that's disappointing but not important. The important thing is that Southend United is still there for our children and our children's children. It was always made clear that our new owners didn't have bottomless pockets but they are, importantly, supporters and lovers of the club. Sad to say, I'd prefer that than us falling into the hands of someone with buckets of (dubiously gained) money, on some kind of ego trip, trying to follow in the steps of Wrexham. Only then, to be landed in the proverbial when that person's interest ran out. Slowly building up new income streams must be the way, whilst judiciously strengthening the squad. Yes, I know that it's a bit 'Catch 22' and that it's easier to be sustainable in the League. Yet, do we risk the future of the club, overspending and gambling on a successful outcome? Frustrating though it is, balance and patience are surely the names of the game. The Consortium have made lots of progress, just give it time. True supporters will stay the course, even if the results, on the pitch, may not be, unfortunately, all that we'd hope for.

So no actual transfer new.
"Pre January it's hard to get players in" "What until January and it will be easier"

I can see a "we will have to wait until pre season" statement coming soon.

Meanwhile, other clubs are signing decent additions and we have the second smallest squad in the league.

We were assured by self styled in the knows and mouthpieces for COSU and Maher to believe that something would happen in January, only for the message to mysteriously change to the summer once January neared. In future, hopefully less notice wil be taken of such posts. Even if something does occur now, most other clubs have got in first as a quick visit to the NL news site underlines.
