Transfer News and Gossip Transfer Rumours Thread 2024/2025.

Transfer news
Must account for all those "headed goals " he has scored so far.
Or the fact that most of our crosses come in after the opposition has been given an age to get set (I.e. too slow, easy to defend), or fails to beat the first man, or is ballooned over the top or out of play etc. etc. There may be a stat that says we put a lot of crosses in- but the quality and timing is often very poor. In short I think the consensus is the service is very poor- now which is easier- find a forward like Pepple who can create and finish all on his own? Significantly improve the quality of the service so all of the forwards can be more successful? Or no doubt both please?

I do agree with you that the quality of crossing has been poor. However, did you watch the Southport game? Or the highlights at least?

Bridge sent a pinpoint cross into Bonne, who despite having an open goal in front of him & only being a few yards out, still didn’t manage to end his goal drought.

And this is far from Bonne’s only glaring chance. I remember his debut game, he could have scored a hattrick. We put that down to ring rust, but looking back now it was just a sign of things to come.

We desperately need two new strikers IMO

It not necessarily just about getting on the end of flick ons it’s about putting the opposition under pressure- that can be chasing the flick on and putting the defender under pressure winning an advanced throw, or if the defender wins the initial header picking up the second ball again in a advanced position.

Would be great if the target man could bring it down as well- let’s sign that man!

Actually at our level it’s quite a large percentage play taking the above also into consideration. Should at least give as much possession deep in the opposition half as knocking it backwards and sideways as 1. At this level the quality to retain possession and be progressive is limited 2. The longer more direct approach can take the opposition midfield out of play where with a laboured build up they get everyone behind the ball?

But it not so simple -we could both argue that with the right players and approach either way will be very successful. And you can play both options at the same time (I.e. in the same game to varying degrees according to the opponent). At the moment neither way is overly successful which is why we need to bring the right players in?

To win second ball you want to be heading back and down, not flick it on like Bonne.

This team needs a Barry Corr but then every team needs a Barry Corr.

Paul Clark is also frustrated with our 3-5-2. He thinks its ok providing but we must do it better, By that he means be more confident about playing the ball FORWARD
Indeed. He understands the philosophy, but would like us to look forward more often. As he says, there's nothing wrong with holding on to the ball and keeping possession, but sometimes you just have to be a bit braver on the ball, and not always play the simple pass.

We could certainly do with a Barry Corr but don’t think it’s right to say Bonne only flicks on. I can definitely recall a number of times Bonne laying off intelligent headers for others. Even in the game when Walker went of injured I remember him setting up Bridge as his emergency strike partner on the edge of the box. If anything I say that flick ons were a weakness as he’ll often jump and nor judge it so he misses the flick.

As I say re second ball you can either get on the end of the flick on or win an attacking throw by putting the subsequent defender under pressure?

In the end most approaches can work if you recruit the relevant players to deliver. But you need round pegs in round holes..

At the moment we can’t even fill the bench for Saturday - but can take comfort that the transfer committee is hard at work, and the computer software is endlessly being refined…let’s hope we don’t get an injury in training

Not to mention pulling out wide and receiving the ball. The cross he put in that nearly led to a goal for Kendall (on his debut I believe) was sublime, unlike the poor effort that was far too hard and too far in front of Bonne by Bridge recently.

We put absolutely loads of crosses in last year. Nowhere near as many this year. That means fewer goals.

Jack Bridge has always cut back and taken his time to deliver the ball, but he was the National League's leading assist maker last year.

The reason we are not scoring as many goals or not creating as many chances is not as simple as 'we need a creative midfielder'. It is because we are not controlling possession in games as well as we did last year, and there are a few factors as to why this is the case (including, it must be said, not having enough creativity in the middle). Jack Bridge has been playing 20 yards deeper than we want him to all season, through little fault of his own.

C'mon all we've heard is we will strengthen in January!

Well with three departures we are in fact weaker than before and with no signings forthcoming I don't hold much hope.

Wait till summer we will strengthen then...... Yeah right

Are we in talks with anyone? Reading some of these post on here i think people expect signings straight away. I doubt it's that easy. Plus these posts saying the consortium won't want to invest because of our current position is deluded! Last year we was worse off and missed out by a point or two so as we know this league if we start getting a few results we are back in the play off hunt.

More from Maher: "A day can be a long time in football. There has been a lot of change this week but you've got to roll with it. We have enough good players in the building to perform. We will get stronger once we add bodies as well. There's opportunities for other people and they've got to take it."

Could there be any new signings before Saturday's game?

Maher: "Possibly. I don't think we'll ever say no because we're working on stuff.

"It's not always the easiest thing to do, especially in the areas we're looking at.

"A lot of things have to go into it before we can make signings."
