Transfer News and Gossip Transfer Rumours Thread 2024/2025.

Transfer news
Problem is, and Ron knew this, if you want fans to buy season tickets, especially in the early bird window, you have to show some intent for the following season. Mugs like myself will buy one regardless, but for those extra bums on seats that COSU are aiming for, intent needs to be shown. At the moment, some loyal fans are already questioning the style. That, coupled with a lack of positive transfers, may lead to some of those 4k season ticket holders not renewing next year. COSU are all about business, I'm sure they'll do something.

I am in no way saying 'splash the cash' and I never have. However, some positive signings that look promising need to be made for the majority to feel positive from now and going into next season.
Also momentum from one season can carry on to the next (look at Ipswich). It’s been said that Kev has/had his eye on a few players who weren’t potentially available til Jan, so if we aren’t bringing in a CB and a striker .. and other teams are .. then to me that’s an acceptance that the play offs are out of reach.

Stan alluded to a change in approach to transfers so I’m interested to see what happens and what the next move is. I assume there’s still a ‘whiteboard’.

What I dont get about this B team is if we are signing unpolished diamonds from lower leagues why they would come to play in our B team and leave jobs, family, friends etc. They wont get paid alot either. Look at Waldron for example giving up a good job to come to us for example. Surely if we are doing something like this we would need to pick up youth players released from Premier League teams each summer and hope one or two come good. Additionally, if COSU are tightening the budgets why would they pay out for this set up? if you have 16 players for example they will all be on say £250+ per week which could be money spent on a couple of top quality players at this level instead.
Well not all lower league players have jobs let alone decent ones. And it also caters for u21s and squad players not getting game time and those coming back from injury.

It was the Brentford for model we were going to follow at the time of Kev’s recruitment. Of course we can u turn on it. But there is little point having a strategy of recruiting young under nourished unpolished non league diamonds as they won’t get game time.

So we are back to recruiting ready now players and probably more use of the loan market. It’s interesting though in that the Brentford model was lauded specifically as a route to sustainability (I.e to make us more sustainable not less).

Anyway let’s not judge until we see what our budget delivers this month.

Part of Stan’s change of approach never happened (B team)

So far the recruitment if we are honest hasn't been to the level required so far...... our squad looks weaker compared to last year despite a change of ownership. Best attendances in the league but mid table budget, something not right there. Problem now is in January clubs want top dollar for players so if we are still on mid table budget we are going to struggle interms of recruiting the required quality of player who will improve us this season and next. we dont want to be signing the likes of Crowther and Waldron, we need better quality than that to compete at the top end of the league. Maybe it's just case of getting couple loans in to see us through to the summer, by then COSU will give the manager slightly bigger budget for recruitment interms of permanent signings instead of loans which will give the fans reason to buy season tickets for £400.

Recruitment was badly hampered by firstly a Transfer Embargo and then the National League asking for a £1 million Bond. We needed to be active in May. With the exception of the full time Clubs, players at part time Clubs have contracts in many cases until the end of May, rather than June. Consequently, many of our targets couldn't afford to wait in the hope that we might or might not make the start of the season.

I think it's case of let's see what the summer brings as I'm sure majority of us will be expecting a busy 1. If I'm honest I don't mind getting couple loans in just to see this season out as we aren't going up or down but I do expect a busy summer where we put a squad together to give us chance of challenging for promotion next season.

We were waiting for the January transfer window and now we have moved on to the Summer window. You seem to have given up all faith on anything this season, so the fans might aswell not bother anymore watching the dour stuff we are served up as it is all pointless this season.

The issue is any rough diamonds will have many clubs watching them. EFL teams even look out for these. Why would a player smashing it at say step 2 or 3 want to come and play in our B team when other teams are likely sniffing around? For the record I hugely like what Brentford are doing but we are non-league and along with numerous other reasons it wouldnt be remotely similar.

Obviously, this is clear Cricko. Catch up. I’m taking up morris dancing on my six month football hiatus.

In January it's so tricky to recruit the required quality we would like going forward unless we pay top dollar. I just think now we are in position in the league where we aren't going up or down, with that in mind we might aswell bring in couple of loans just to see us through but I do expect us to be pretty busy this summer coming with the aim to recruit the required quality of player to give us the best possible chance of promotion charge next season, if that means uping the budget then so be it. Mate I would love busy January but can't really see it happening.

I would say unless we get a good replacement for Bim, we could still be drawn into the battle at the bottom as our goal threat has greatly diminished.
