Transfer News and Gossip Transfer Rumours Thread 2024/2025.

Transfer news
York about to sign Josh Stones for a decent chunk after he was recalled by Wigan from Oldham. Must be nice being able to just spend and bring in who ever you want.

Rumour on that one from the Oldham and York end is that the fee is in the region of £300k. Oldham fan comments:

"My fears about ours season going tits up are coming true. Id be massively surprised if we couldn't match the bid, but this, coupled with conlons injury are huge blows"

Another:

"Good player Stones, you'll love him at York, congrats!

It is a lot of money, but he has the potential to increase his value as he keeps bagging goals and improving.

He apparently seems to pick up a lot of little injuries, but that's just due to how he plays, he's clearly a very fit lad.

I trust in our management, and we were going well before his short loan, be interesting to see who we turn to now."

Sounds like a good buy for them, expensive but good buy. Must be nice.

For some perspective 300k is second in the National leagues all time record signings list behind Ollie Palmer who was 375K

It would also have put him in the top 10 of L2 all time signings, this is by the same club who spent the exact same amount on a striker last season.

They have spent 4 times the amount that FGR did on Cardwell

Fair play to York if they get promoted this year they’ll probably be favourites to win the league 2 next year

300k 😱

All of which are loss making.

Currently.
Virtually all EFL clubs and most in our division are loss making. COSU weren’t silly enough to think sustainable in lower league football = making a profit, or even breaking even. Maybe a few years down the line if we really do follow the Brentford model as well as Brentford did/do…

I do think this year that a disproportionate amount of funds injected were and are focussed on infrastructure and debt. Next year maybe it will focus more on the football budget.

This is part of why we can’t right now compete financially with a number of clubs above us- of course we will still expect to defy that in terms of results..
