Transfer News and Gossip Transfer Rumours Thread 2023-24 (Part 2 - Back in Business. Oh no we’re not)

Transfer news

I don’t think a social media account posting transfer targets is affecting deals either, but the simple fact is those outside the club still shouldn’t have this info.

If I was Maher I’d be frustrated by it as well, unnecessary noise that creates false expectations and makes us look bad in my opinion.
It’s more likely to be affecting the existing squad than our targets.

Fevered speculation that we’ll be signing a forward probably isn’t helpful if you’re Sandat/Vilhete/Kabongolo/Wood and preparing for a game Saturday.

Sounds like Kev is getting frustrated that deals are not going as planned.
yes i get that impression. At the AGM JR hinted that we had two or three players ready to sign as soon as the embargo was lifted. We know the areas we need to improve and strengthen but to date only Morton has come in, who looks a very good signing. As frustrating as it is we must ensure that not only do we get the right players in for now but more so for next season which we all hope will be a good one for us. Its frustrating as once again other teams are signing players but if we have to wait a little longer for the right ones then so beit

Originally intended to be on the coaching team and staying fit enough to be cover for more or less any defensive or midfield position. Kev was pretty insistent he carried on playing due to what he brings.
Then due to the issues and injuries at the club he was needed to start regularly. He thoroughly enjoyed it and his fitness levels were better than ever.
It seems the stats show the win ratio over a fairly lengthy period was far higher when he plays, but the grade 2 hamstring meant over 6 weeks out. Although now ready to resume, the additions and Ralph getting back for mean he be just covering for now, but obviously he can cover so many positions which is useful for kev.
Plus, cav is now also back in full training and won't be long before he can be available again.
JD is enjoying playing still and like Dave Martin, wants to fight his way back into the starting 11. He's fit enough and probably more importantly has shed loads of experience which we are lacking. But kev likes to stay in a set formation and doubt would want to make changes to that more than needed.
(nothing stated here that causes an issue, no secrets revealed!)
Great news about Cav. Be great to have our Rolls-Royce in the middle of the park back.

Any news on Cards injection and whether he’s had it yet?

Aren't transfer rumours being touted on social media just part of the modern game that managers have to deal with? It's a rare thing further up the pyramid for a transfer to be done on the quiet, especially when you have journalists like Fabrizio Romano who have made a career out of being transfer 'specialists'.

Is it just that the pond we're fishing in is much smaller at our level that names being leaked might make other clubs pounce for our targets?

From the chats I have had the fortune to have with JD over the years, the determination to play week in and week out is definitely still there! I think he'll be one of those still registered as a player when he's 40!

Brilliant news to here on Cav. Noor is arguably my favourite player but anyone can see we miss Cav at the base of the midfield, protecting the back three and more importantly, taking the ball off Kens or Taylor in between the lines and getting the midfield 10 yards further up the pitch. Let's have the Afghan Prince further up the pitch where he can do more damage.

Add Morton into that midfield and we aren't far away from sorting the midfield. Strikers next...

Is there a possibility of clubs looking at our new ownership....and suddenly demands are a tad more than expected.
Coupled with the consortium clearly not going down the path of chucking a shed load of money at everything.
These two factors bogging things down somewhat?

Why ? Mather has said him self were desperate for strikers. Think that’s obvious
Indeed, no-one’s going to be surprised when we sign a striker.

But when it comes to timing Maher was non-committal. It was on here that the expectation was raised that it would be in time for the game.

The bigger point though is that information on SZ is far more likely to reach our existing players (who live and work in the area and are therefore far likelier to encounter SZ posters in their daily life) than it is our future signings.

Could be. We could have gone from offering a club an amount and the club knowing thats all they will get as they are dealing with Ron (and probably will have to chase for the payment anyway) to know dealing with unknowns so may be "playing the game a bit" and seeing just how much they can squeeze out of the new stones that now own Southend

It's absolutely fascinating to see how far we have come in terms of what we know and when we know it when it comes to probable signings. In the past (only a few years ago) we were reliant on Chris Phillips hinting and then posting to find out who we were going to sign. Now we are in the vanguard of the snippets and I absolutely love it. I have a mind of my own and I can normally suss who's talking bollocks and who is on the money (probably) so I say carry on posting what you can, those that know, it makes the day brighter, and if it doesn't happen, then so what, things change. As for people suggesting that it puts players off, really? They're more likely to be put off by some of the vitriol that seeps out of here on match days and beyond.

I've heard that we're signing new players soon, anyone want to tell me who they are? I will be judging your posts by your success rate on the rumours front by the way. :Winking:

Am not ITK - but I would imagine so. Everyone is looking for the next Wrexham money bags club, and when a multi-person consortium takes over a club, selling clubs see pound signs...

Rumours on fan sites are never going to influence any deal, genuine potential moves will be well known in the football community way before they hit fan forums. Players talk to one another so do managers, coaches, agents and recruitment heads etc. I can’t imagine many teams taking any notice of them, most are click bait spread by all of us and the rest are doubtful at best! Fun though……..
