I don’t think it is.

There has been loads of stick since Saturday for people posting stuff, and that’s why you won’t see much from some posters anymore. It really isn’t worth the hassle.

I’m just looking forward to people eating humble pie in the next week or so when things do come off.

As @Mark Corrigan said, chill out and watch the darts tonight. We don’t have to worry about the game until 3pm on Saturday.
I agree with you on all points but I think you missed mine, which is that it is harsh to criticise the audience for expecting something when the communication was to expect something.

Sorry to jump in, but I find this all crazy.

The deal for Waldron didn't quite go through before the Barnet game (out of our control) and we have bought in a midfielder in that time.

Transfer negotiations are nothing like Football Manager. Especially when people are weighing up their livelihoods.

Take Waldron for example. Seems to be from the Birmingham area and has never played full time football. Presumable he supplements his football wage with an actual day job. Moving to us could decrease his monthly salaries.

He's 27 and may have a family, this is more than deciding to play for a new football team. This is a tough decision.

We were also not allowed to speak to clubs or take players on 'trial' whilst under an embargo so presumably the CEO and backroom staff have honoured that so they've had literally 4/5 days to talk to players.

I trust in the Amigos, Still & TL, but I really hope we play the long game and only sign a striker if we really want them for duration of their contract. I'd much rather us sign loanees to keep us mid-table this season and then sign our top choices in the summer than sign out 5th/6th choice now on 1.5-2.5 year deals.

The project is next season and beyond, this season is all about preparation for that.

Agreed completely. As such, communicating timelines can only disappoint in life, business and football. Rees learned the same over the past 2 months, but I suspect he doesn't believe that the audience were wrong to listen to them.

To my knowledge, nobody on here promised 3 signings before kick off.

Even if they had, SZ is not an official source of SUFC info. Why people don’t refer to the club’s Twitter or the OS for info on signings, Chris Phillips perhaps? Fact is, players were lined up that it was hoped might come in before Sat. Only one did, such is life.

I’m sure everyone tried to get a striker in, as an example. We know how desperate Kev is for extra bodies. But there’s other things at play here, the agent, the contract negotiations, the selling club etc.

Bloody hell! We're not after Luke Littler are we?!

I am hoping that we are after some League 2/Division 4 players and the signings may be dictated by the transfer window in that division.

Just a thought mind ......

Agreed, but my point is purely on communication which is under the control of the communicator.

To use a work analogy, if I tell my boss I expect to finish something by end of today, and don't finish it until end of the week, I don't get to say it was his fault to have expected it by end of today. That's the only point I'm making.

Nobody promised anything, but people suggested to expect, so should not blame people for expecting. If it is known to be unrealistic to expect it, as you have well explained, it's even poorer communication in the first place IMO.

Got to remember it’s not great timing given the transfer window opening. Makes every and any deal more difficult.
Agreed - I have no specialised knowledge in this field but I would think it is a bit like those small toys that one had when young - you have to move the pieces around to create space to move another piece. Well, perhaps not like that but hopefully you get the idea/drift/ethos/spirit.

Equally, if your computer hasn’t been working for 15 months, would your boss expect you to complete all that work within 24 hours, or would he cut you a bit of slack…

A period of silence from so called 'In the Knows' would be very welcome as far as I'm concerned. Why can't people wait for an official announcement instead of raising expectatiions and false hopes.

That would be my "style" but I understand others who like "display of knowledge" & the "thrill of the chase" .....

Still, loads better than having Umbungo in place.

I think people need to separate disappointment and frustration from replies, especially those aimed at ITK posters.

Anyone with eyes could see during the first Barnet game that we’re crying out for a striker. Does anyone here think Kev and co didn’t do everything in their power to get someone in? In fact we know they did as Kev has said as much in an interview.

Sometimes you don’t always get what you want. And sometimes you do but you just have to wait a bit longer for it.

Yes it’s frustrating that the longer it takes to get bodies in through the door the more possible points we could drop, but we’ve only got an outside chance of the playoffs this season now anyway. We’d have to go on a hell of a run. I’m not ruling it out by any stretch as we have the nucleus of a very talented squad but it’s a squad that’s been hamstrung for over a year and we’ve given the rest of the league 5 months head start and been deducted 10 points. Common sense says we’re more likely to challenge from next season.

I hope we get some players in before our next game but equally I’m not gonna jump off a bridge if we don’t.

It's a similar scenario to the takeover. There was many false rumours that it had fallen through and wasn't happening with this consortium. A few of us said to be patient, it is happening. It's the same with players coming in, be patient, it is happening. Which deals are going to go smoothly, and which are going to have complications for many reasons, we don't know. It can be the player and his young family mulling over the move. It can be the agents, wanting too much, or using our offer as a bargaining tool for a move to another higher up club. It can be the club trying to squeeze too big a transfer fee. Etc. Many reasons. It doesn't mean Southend United are dragging their heels or not trying very hard.

Happy to restrict any interesting factual news to a small selection away from the main forum in future. However, I won’t be silent as per your wish, because I’m also a fan as well as being fortunate enough to have linked involvement, and as a fan I’ll be commenting on performances and squad choices, renovations etc, the same as every one else on here!
