Be interesting what happens in summer and how many we sign as can’t see it being to many tbh . As we have got a good solid base of squad maybe few more in key areas and hopefully we can give it good crack to try for play offs next season 🤞
Depends on what league we are in, if it is NLS, I imagine most of our squad will leave so it will be a complete overhaul in the summer

Off the top of my head, Notts County last season had Slocombe in goal, many years of experience at a higher level, Chicksen, O'Brien, Palmer, Brindley and Morais all with many FL games under their belt. We had Demetriou and ?

The likes of Brindley, Palmer, Chicksen have similar amount of EFL experience to Harry Taylor and Nathan Ralph and to a lesser extent Wes Fonguck.

Morais, who FWIW has made fewer FL starts than Jack Bridge, only joined in April and made 2 sub appearances that season for Notts County.

Demi and Dave Martin have as much if not more experience than Slocombe and O’Brien.

Then there’s someone like Cav who might not have played EFL (although he really should have) but has well over 200 starts at this level. We’re really not inexperienced.

Yea spot on. People saying we need "Football League" experience may want to;

A) Check what division we are in and
B) Remind themselves what happened when Brown tried that after relegation.

Brown thought it was the golden ticket out of the NL, but here we are...

Go back the season before and we had an over the hill John White, Josh Coulson and James Dunne and we are a far better team than that now. Experience isn't the problem.

The main reason Notts were so good was because they signed a gem from national league north (zero EFL experience)
They did have EFL experience to. Bostock and Jones who have previously played at championship level. They didn't just sign all there players from NLN.

I am pretty sure there is a big difference to getting a in couple of experienced heads still with some ability and the dog **** that PB served up.

Both joined midseason when they were, along with Wrexham, clear at the top.

John Bostock had 54 EFL starts to his name; Jodi Jones had 48. I think you mean they were FL quality rather than experienced.

Yeah Bostock had done nothing except for 54 English league starts… and over 100 extra games across the continent in some pretty great leagues (and was a former Ligue 2 player of the year) 🤦

I don’t think it’s outrageous to think a team whose football league experience includes Nathan Ralph (4 relegations in a row) Jason Demetriou (an apparent legend who has persisted for over a half decade in the worst era of this football team) and David Martin, who was on the golf course for the last two years might require a bit of freshening up with some experienced talent who can play more than ten games in a row without breaking down.

Its not just "experience" per se imo. Brandon goodship has league experience, doesnt mean he's good enough for the level.

Its the kind of experience of actual promotion that we need. Winners who have done it before.

(And before people cack their pants im talking one or two, not 11 like phil brown)
I totally agree with you. Experience only counts for something if it's 'good' experience. Bond signed a whole host of captains during his tenure. The problem was, they were all experienced at losing.

Our current experienced players are mostly used to losing/being relegated. Ralph and Demi are definitely used to it.

That's my biggest concern going forward. It's not a quality change, but a mentality change that's needed. This current crop are used to trying to win against adversity. They were amazing at it. However, if they didn't win, there was no pressure from us because there were extreme circumstances to consider. It's different now. Do we really have many 'winners' in the team that are used to expectation? Kev hasn't experienced expectation as a manager yet either.

It's a big culture change at the club and it requires a specific mentality. It remains to be seen if the whole footballing staff are ready for that. We know the quality is there as they've proved it. We just need to see if they can do it with a totally new pressure on their shoulders.

Bang on.

So, are we signing anyone in the coming weeks? Or are we sticking to the current squad for the relegation battle
Why the hell would we sign anyone? We've got one of the best squads in the league. We need to make better use of the significant resources we have.

What does one of our players earn? £50k? You want the owners to chuck another £50k a year at the first team, or you want them to spend it improving our decrepit stadium?

We have about the same amount of FL experience in our squad as Notts County did last season.

We are currently lacking confidence, not experience.

The difference being that they had a solo player who scored more goals than our whole team put together.

If you don't score goals you don't win games.

Notts county, Wrexham and Notts county aren't afraid to concede. We have a far better goals against tally than top of the table chesterfield.

You have to score your way out of this division.

We are so blunt it's beyond a joke.

Are we??

We finished last season on 69 points and in 8th.

We currently have 35 points (45) points without embargo.

So just to equal last seasons squad we would need to gain 24 points from the final 15 games.

That equates to 0.6 points per game.

Should be acheivable easily right. Not when you don't even look like scoring any goals.

So for a much better squad it's likely we won't hit the same points as previous seasons.

Let's not kid ourselves that this team is vastlr stronger than previous teams. It isn't.

You could easily argue that this team has far better potential to improve and definitely has potential to have saleable assets.

At present, I would say the team is disjointed and underachieving.

Who says we have to sign someone permanently? We could sign somebody on loan. The majority of the loan signings made under the current management have had a positive impact.

Another Dennis/Kanu type player could be useful in getting us some much needed goals.

The season of White Dunne and Coulson was the season before, I was referencing the season before Notts County last season so that's probably why it comes across that way.

I agree though, we were playing much better football towards the end of last season than we are now.

We should 100% be gambling on a loan signing or 2 until the end of the season!

We are currently in the relegation zone (Aside from goal difference) have a few key injuries and can't buy a goal currently.

For our next 6 games, we are massive underdogs in most of them and we could easily find ourselves 9 points from safety if we continue how we have been
