You can laugh but I think the assessments of Moncur, Bonne and Hopper by opposing fans who watch the team week in week out are as accurate as anything a scout comes up with. It was always Danny Bakers argument that if you were interested in signing a player you should go in the players fans local pub before the game and ask around. Now we have social media I think a fans forum will give you a pretty good idea. There are idiots but you can soon flush them out or they are overwhelmed by popular opinion. Spend a couple of hours on here reading post match threads and player ratings would be very useful before making a signing of one of our players.

Player who has done nothing for a few years drops divisions to sign for a club nearer home.

He’d likely be a reclamation project as we rebuild his confidence but being a higher earner there’d be the expectation for him to make an immediate impact. That’s not a great combination so we might have dodged a bullet.

One could argue Walker was the same.

That's the dilemma I guess, we want a player that can score goals at this level but we don't have the money to get someone who is doing it right now. Dallas is only 25 and has done it at this level. Brentwood lad is playing at a very low level but is scoring. They are the ponds we are fishing in.
