Transfer Embargo, Winding Up Petition & Staff Salary Issues

Further to the report in the Southend Echo on Friday 30th September that Southend United FC have been placed under a transfer embargo due to a missed payment to HMRC, the Shrimpers Trust remain in dialogue with the football club.

Almost a year ago to the day, supporters voted overwhelmingly that they had no confidence in club chairman Ron Martin. Today, we reiterate the Trust's position that Mr Martin is not a fit and proper owner of our football club.

Supporters are tired of the constant cycle of missed payments to staff and to HMRC, and the incessant strain that puts on Southend United's relationship with authorities and regulators. Furthermore, we are extremely frustrated that this threatens to undermine the progress of the most exciting playing and coaching group to represent our club for some time.

We recognise the sentiments of the statement released by Save Our Southend this morning, and the intention not to adversely affect on-field activity at the National League fixture against Yeovil Town this afternoon. The Shrimpers Trust supports the sit-in protest at Roots Hall for 15 minutes after the final whistle and Board members will be participating.

The Trust will also be continuing to work together with other supporter groups in the coming days and weeks to determine the best strategy to ensure supporters' voices are effectively heard to bring about meaningful change at Southend United FC.

We will issue further statements as this situation develops.

Isn't it bloody ironic that as soon as things, at last, look like turning on the pitch, this shedload of s**t falls on our head. Am I a lover of Ron Martin as our owner? Not at all. I'd far prefer someone who can finance the club properly and maintain It on an even keel. However I do consider myself a realist and at the moment there is no realistic alternative to Martin, we just have to pray he succeeds. I'm buckled in for the ride, though I'm not enjoying It. Protests, unfortunately, appear futile , will do nothing and won't help the situation on the pitch. Better save our energy for the dreaded situation if it does all fall apart. A phoenix club is not my desire. We can already see how difficult It is to get out of this division, let alone one six of seven levels below. I'm praying we'll get back to the League in my lifetime, not my grandchildren's..........if I ever have any!😁

problem is that it simply isnt that simple. Ron is going nowhere, if he was going to or could have then he would have done so sometime ago. He is to deep in the brown stuff now. We are stuck with him whether we like it or not
And this is the reality that many need to accept. All this talk of finding someone to buy the club is fantasy. The club don't own anything that can be bought or sold. Nobody is buying a club that owns nothing. Southend United and Ron Martin are in this together until the very end.

Ron Martin is an utter disgrace. Unpaid staff wages, main sponsor pulling support due to financial dishonesty, stadium plans being constantly changed to limit the ambition and benefit of the club, and another transfer embargo. All the good work done by the management team, Stan and Tom being quickly undone by this absolute charlatan.

We have what seems like a credible buyer ready to go but Ron won’t let his ego take a bruising. Vic Jobson’s son also says on Twitter that Ron failed to pay the last instalment (one third) of Vic’s majority shareholding for the club.

Get this crook out of our club.

the key thing here, none of the good work could be achieved without the money Ron puts into the club.

There was an interesting reply to Chris Phillips on Twitter from Jobson’s son (who incidentally is the Royal Editor at the Evening Standard - who knew?) which seems to indicate that Ron never paid the final third payment for the majority shareholding and so is not therefore the majority shareholder. He says he is the executor for Vic’s estate and is ready to take action.
He's not.

But technically whoever the executor is can take action? Surely Vic Jobson’s estate still owns a third of the club?
Based on a tweet from his son last night? Or is there other evidence that’s the case? (i wasn’t aware of any claims prior to last night)

Standard reaction from someone that doesn’t like the truth.

I don’t like Ron or how he has dealt with his business over the last 5-10 years but it doesn’t take much to notice we unfortunately are left with him until he gets his money back and profit
I don’t disagree that we’re stuck with Ron until he makes his money. Just feels like you’re trying to defend the indefensible. Successive relegations into non-league football, not paying staff, more winding up orders, embargoes and court hearings than I’ve had hot dinners, main sponsors pulling support, stadium plans being stripped to the bone, clubs refusing to do business with us. But I’m supposed to pat him on the back for putting some money into the club?

I'm just royally ****ed off that SUFC ( the football club which I've supported since I was a boy, rather a long time ago now in my particular case) is in this situation yet again.Like others I don't believe FF will ever get completed which means that we're stuck with the current Chairman.who's clearly hanging on for that to happen. It's been a long 22 years.
