Transfer Embargo, Winding Up Petition & Staff Salary Issues

Seems obvious to me. Everyone will express their ‘outrage’ we’ll pick up a few points the embargo will be lifted and everything will be back to normal. Pointless pointless pointless. Empty words from empty people on this site.

Your right, but theres a reason behind that. For real change everyone needs to pull in the same direction, but for some reason people either a) seem to believe in rons vision and believe it will come good or b) are scared that any withdrawal of support would send the club under.
What these people dont relies is even with their attendance at games and their support, the club is still going in a downward spiral. Results on the pitch only paper over the cracks.

I'm not sure what is more frustrating about stories like this. Having to explain the unique complex relationship we have with Ron Martin to fans of other clubs, or having to deal with the people who criticise you after you've explained it for "sticking up for Ron".

I hate Ron with a passion and want him gone last week, but the 'fans/officials of other clubs think you lot are soft' line is absurd. Ron was chairman for arguably the second most successful period of our history. There is little dispute that Roots Hall is fit for purpose and Ron's intentions to build a new stadium are valid, even if my 5 year old son could have done it quicker. If you were to really stretch the goodwill, you could acknowledge he listened to Stan last year and finally appointed a CEO and the football side is not blossoming.

There have been plenty of protests, but the fundamental difference between Ron and the Becchetti's and Oystons of this world is that Ron has always put money into the club and backed managers. Until things went south in 2008, his reputation in the game was actually pretty solid, I am sure he was a representative on the Football League board for a bit. The issue with Ron is he refuses to let go. He's the injured mountain climber halfway up Everest, clinging onto the leg of his healthy mate and guaranteeing mutually assured destruction.

Do we have Stockholm Syndrome? Ron's not even our worst ever owner, I don't think Southend United has ever in living memory had a decent owner. It is an AWFUL analogy but I can't put it better than being in a toxic relationship where we don't know anything else and can't leave anyway.

Orient fans fought so hard against Becchetti because it was black and white. He was a car crash from day one that clearly had no interest in running the club properly. Oyston was pocketing money from Blackpool for his own gains. Ron is actually putting money into the club every month, the issue with Ron is that it's clear now he no longer has the means to do this but he won't sell.

Please do not take this as a defence of Ron. This club will never progress while Ron is at the helm. He needs to be gone, and be gone yesterday. But I hate the stuff about how this fan base has let him get away with murder. At best it's a lazy assumption by people who don't understand the club and its history, at worst it's a direct slur on a fantastic fan base.
While plenty of what you said is true I'm going to have to strongly disagree with you on our fanbase comment. We could amd should of done a lot more to hit Ron hard years ago.

As for suggesting I'm making a lazy assumption and don't understand. Considering you have no idea of the level of detail I know I could throw that one right back at you but I'm not here to attack individuals of I know nothing of.

That makes no sense because if it was never going to be completed the first thing he would do is sell and cut losses
I think he's pot-committed as poker players would say. The accounts of all of his empire of companies are propped up on mountains of debt owed to each other - starting with Southend United Football Club Ltd.

If he walks away that debt collapses and so does everything else around him.

I would like to know what people are seeing in the ideas of protests, they've happened a few times already and people even made their way on the pitch, not for one second did Ron batter an eye lid to it, he doesn't care, he's made it clear he's in it for the long run until he gets what he wants with the stadium, the man is not leaving.

We are essentially powerless in this situation, I don't want him here either but I struggle to see what anything we do is going to cause him to budge, he's committed to what HE wants to do, and yes he is ruining it day by day, but we are just ants in his world.

I want to know if any club staff have been promised anything should ff go ahead. That would be transparency.

Boycott is the only option. I would be interested to see how much financial impact this can have after fans have already put up a year’s cash for season tickets.

Unfortunately, too many people unwilling to do this. Another reason why this thread of gossip is absolutely meaningless :)

Boycotting leads to financial strangulation of the club and even more cash flow issues for the club, I struggle to see how this helps anything.

As well as this, some people just want to watch football, you can't blame them for that.

That is the point of a boycott. Stop feeding the problem. Right now every person putting money into this club (including myself) is constantly bailing out a ship without patching the hole. If people want to just watch football they should find another club as they clearly don’t care enough about this one.

"They" are not being told anything. Today I could have sat back, not put my own position at rush by offering an opinion and let others, more senior to me, take the flak.

Protesting a la Chesterfield is a zero sum game. Players don't want that negativity, neither do coaches. If it became a regular occurrence, players and potentially coaches could go elsewhere leaving the club in a negative position on the pitch.

Then there's the inevitable "revolutionaries " versus "passive supporters " dynamic, causing major splits in a supporter base which inevitably leads to large chunks not going to games that are toxic rather than a United front.

Then there's staff. Depleted due to people going elsewhere, under stress already without taking any financial issues into consideration, with done mentally and physically at their end point. Do you think they deserve even more days of this that bleeds into matchdays? Another net loss.

And finally the big dogs inside the club. Some thing they're all sitting on chaises longues eating Gracie's while the owner gives us orders. Nothing could be further from the truth. These people will walk as they are coveted elsewhere. Another net loss.

Ultimately there's a fine balance between all out war, passivity and inertia. You're talking to someone who knows what they are doing alongside others treading that fine line.

Or go on the pitch, protest and see young players, and a young staff have to play against their own as well as the opposition. See how that plays out.

Ignore me at your leisure, protest at your leisure. But I'm giving best advice in the imperfect circumstances were in.
Appreciate there is a limit to what you can reveal but will there be a club statement on this soon?

Sorry, I do have to disagree here, no one is feeding the problem, you cannot call the fans the problem because they want to watch football at a club they have support for probably most of their lives. The owner is the problem and as I said in my first post, we are useless, we are powerless, protests, boycotting, it doesn't do anything remotely close to making Ron leave.
