SUFC: The Future The regeneration of Roots Hall

Our hopes and visions for the rebirth of Southend United, plus any plans published by the consortium for discussion
From the widest point going west to east, the current Roots Hall structure is around 122m.

From the narrowest point going north to south, the car park area is 116m. By rotating the pitch we lose 6m, meaning the stands running the length of the touchline would have to be narrower, or multiple storey. Rotating isn't a viable option I don't think

Very interesting insight, thanks for sharing. Yes it seems we would need to acquire St. Mary’s court, the north east corner of shops and plot 25 on the drawing to even make an alternative feasible. If not for the reasons mentioned, especially cost and ground share then redevelopment of stands is our most appropriate way to go. Still plenty of options for our needs.

15000 capacity stadium at little marginal cost from developing North and East stands on current plot. Room to expand "North Side" to 17500. No need to leave Roots Hall if build in stages. Sun in goalkeepers eyes though, same as at Wembley and Old Trafford:

I can't believe rotating the pitch is still a discussion point.
I can’t understand why we wouldn’t look at all our options under the new leadership. The old girl has served us well but we can all agree it needs a refurb and that could be best achieved by rotating the pitch. Not saying it is the best way but it can’t be ignored as a potential option. The new Spurs stadium and to a lesser degree Wembley both built on original site and adjusted the pitch position. They’ve turned out ok…

We wont be rotating the pitch. The West and North will be refurbed before the East.

On my way to the ticket office/club shop at 12.30 today, i entered at the gates in between the row of shops ( most empty ) & St. Mary's Court. Having a good look around with the car park nigh on empty ( apart from a few cars ), & no fans en route to the ground, it hit home to me what a complete dump the whole area is ( thanks to 'you know who'). Even approaching the east stand & players/officials entrance, everything looked so run down & shoddy. Weeds 5ft high on the small bank between the car park & tarmac area in front of the east stand, is that overgrown tree necessary, but if not i suppose that would take 2 years before the Council ok'd it being cut down?.
The fence separating the car park from St. Mary's Court hanging on for dear life, and as for the car park surface itself, dear oh dear what a mess. Obviously sorting out & improving the Stands & facilities is first priority, but what i've mentioned hopefully will be on the agenda later, & the cost of all this must be a horrific thought?.

I'm expecting some of the car park to be built on.

You may well be right. I would have thought the logic would be North first. Smallest amount of people in that area currently and area in north west corner condemned. East next, so those fans can be accommodated elsewhere, predominantly west and the would be larger north bank, then west. If you do west first, where do all those people relocate to? Unless it’s not done until next summer?

Depending on what they do - I think sheriff indicated it was possible to either do over the summer break or almost block by block so less people displaced

Imagine the car parking is put on the tiered roofs x3 of new units below them built into the sloping ground finca style and the bottom tier has secure staff and players parking direct access to the ground floor of a new East stand. The whole thing could be attached to the new east stand giving access to it at different levels, the units could include fanzones food , ticketing ,club shop, think outside the box , when it's gone it's gone ! Beer and food festivals , winter Christmas fayres outside ice skating on etc etc

We redeveloped all four sides of Fratton Park across two seasons with minimal loss of capacity. Where there's a will (or a proper seating specialist as opposed to any old backyard builder) there's a way.

I know some of it is in jest, but let's please stop with the rotating of the pitch chat...

In theory the space is there, but it turns a £10-15m 'relatively' soft touch phased redevelopment in to a £60m project which would ensure we had to move away for at least one season.
I get your point but wouldn’t we save loads by limiting to rotation to 2-3%?

I'm told that tree will be coming down.
