The Olympics thread

Isimbyeva or however you spell it has just beaten her own WR (again) in the pole vault, 5.05m.

Can anyone else remember another woman holding the pole vault world record in the last ten years?

Yelena Isinbayeva wins the pole vault and breaks the WR. Fantastic scenes - we've had some truly wonderful moments in these Games.

Men's "team" table tennis final on now. It's not "team", it's "doubles". Do you see the Murray brothers going for the mens "team" tennis gold? No.

I like watching table tennis - shame I can't play it.

I'm not sure it's even that old an event. Isinbayeva was run very close by Feofanova in Athens and before that I think Stacy Dragila of the USA was the best around. Plus how could we forget Tatiana Grigorieva?

A name with that many vowels in it? Quite easily, considering the fact that my brain is currently sending messages along the lines of "who the heck is she"? around.

Be nice if team Murray got anywhere near the tennis Gold!:whistling:

The idea was that you clicked on the link to see what was there ;)

I didn't want to post an image directly as I'm in an open plan office :whistling:

I want to know why Tilly isn't at the Olympics with his skills! Tilly OUT (to China!)

Guaranteed 3 more medals now: Definite gold as it's an all Brit final in the men's Sprint and at LEAST a silver for Vic Pendleton in the ladies sprint!

Caused the Aussie girl to take a different line & almost crash, so the commissaires relegated the Chinese girl to the bronze final.

Now on the most mental of all track cycling races, the Madison!

absolutely no idea what is going on. how do the sprints start? are they only for the people at the front?

Sprints are every 20 laps (I think).
Basically they are contested by whichever rider of the pair is curently "in play" - I guess you've seen them handslinging each other to change over?

All very confusing. I prefer the one-on-one sprints where the simple rule is that the person in the GB kit wins.

yeah i understand that bit. i don't understand how the sprints are started... are all the teams in it, because they aren't all at the same point on the track when it (seems to) begin
