The Olympics thread

yeah i understand that bit. i don't understand how the sprints are started... are all the teams in it, because they aren't all at the same point on the track when it (seems to) begin

Sprints are at set points & bell goes when the leading pair (of the main group or any breakaway - see my other post about the points race) go over the line with one lap to go (e.g bell rings at lap 19 prior to sprint on lap 20)

Goes to show that British Cycling's lottery funding is paying off.
Imagine what we'll be like when Glasgow & London velodromes are built and operational!

Fantastic stuff by our cyclists, and also the rowers & sailors. IMO it goes to show what lottery funding has done for these sports. But not only that the way that potential is identified and nurtured in these sports and the winning mentality that has ensued. I would love to see some of this in our track & field athletes.

15 Gold medals is brilliant and I've a feeling there'll be a few more yet.

Almost as good as the Worlds this year.

Although there are far fewer events in the Olympics than in those extremely exciting and enjoyable World Championships!

I watched the madison this morning, and watching it on TV just isn't the same as seeing it live - the director keeps focusing in on the wrong area, and Hugh Porter (bless him) just doesn't seem to have much of a clue as to what's going on. Plus of course the added bonus in Manchester was that Mark and Brad managed to pull off such a thrilling victory!!:)

But full credit to the GB Cycling team - what a bunch of heroes, I salute you all!

Ohorougou is about to run in the 400m final

and she gets gold!!!! what a run, she could have done another lap!
