The Olympics thread

Just watching James Degale in his boxing Final and he is 6-1 ahead after round one. He is a great Boxer and looks like he will win the Gold.

Well Done James for winning 16-14 and getting the gold, really good boxing match the best i have seen this Olympics

What a mental fight that was!

Shame both our relay squads both missed out, neither team quite good enough. Likewise with Lisa Dobriskey in the 1,500m. She'll be back though.

Any chance of gold medal number 20? That would be bloody brilliant.

Shame about Lisa Dobriskey she just got that wrong, as you say she'll be back.

I'd just like to add how impressed I've been with the BBC's coverage, be it online, on Five Live or via the red button on the telly. One or two minor frustrations when they showed stuff on the main BBC 1 feed minutes after it had been on the red button, but the coverage has generally been excellent. Roll on 2012!

I think we're done now. We've got a competitor in the men's marathon but he's a 100/1 rag.

That's what I thought, I think I may stay away from the 100/1 shot.

Got to agree the Beeb are often and quite rightly slated, but their coverage throughout these games has been top notch. Some very awkward events like sailing which must be difficult to cover, largely because it looks like a free for all, plus this has the added benefit of the lovely Shirley Robertson.

2012 is a fantastic opportunity for us.

The online has been fantastic, the streaming has only been a few seconds behind the TV. A technological success for Auntie Beeb.

Bronze for Stevenson in the Taekwondo, can't help thinking that she would have got through her semi final if it hadn't been for all palava with the over turned decision hadn't messed her preperation.

Well that's that for another 4 years, and a thoroughly enjoyable two weeks it was, and so refreshing to see so many top class British performances, to finish overall 4th in the Medals table was a fantastic achievement IMO. I hope it bodes well for London 2012.

Well organised by the Chinese, and some great venues, excellent tv, radio and on line coverage by the Beeb as well. I thought that the closing ceremony was a tad tedious but enjoyed the brief London segment, and at least Boris Johnson didn't drop the flag being handed over to him.

Here's hoping that 2012 will be as spectacular.

The Australian coverage was good. Especially only being 2 hours ahead of Bejing meant we got all the major competitons at times that suited us well.

And the best bit? Stuffing the Aussies in the medal tables. And instead of congratulating us they are slating their own athletes. Better luck in 2012 boys but we will be just be holding olympic competitions that suit us - anything on cycling tracks or rowing with some darts and tiddly winks thrown in - so you dont stand a chance anyway.

Was a fantastic games for us, I can honestly say that I'm a bit sad now it's all over.

Only one thing spoilt it for me: The bias towards the Chinese competitors in the combat sports. The fact that the British girl's result had to be turned over in Taekwando as the pro-chinese bias was so damn obvious was a disgrace and I can't believe that the judges aren't from independent countries.

Apart from that, BEST GAMES EVER!

Still not so sure it was the best games ever. Where were all the foreign fans? Very few seemed to be able to get tickets and the few GB fans seemed to be made up of relatives or other GB competitors (and even then it was very hard for relatives to get tickets).

This is where London 2012 will be very different & we will see many more tourists coming here than to China. I'm sure we will have a large portion of the support at most venues but I bet there will be large numbers of USA, Australian & Chinese supporters at all the venues. We might not be able to match the regimental spectacle of the Chinese but we will win hands down on atmosphere.

The Taekwando had me absolutely livid on Saturday morning, saw her 1/4 final, and the ludicrous decision, and went out to do my food shopping swearing under my breath the whole way. Got back just as the decision was overturned, but she was never going to win her semi her head must have been all over the place. She was robbed!

Then there was the blatent bias in the boxing final where it was china v ireland aswell. Shame.

Gutted that the games is over, I loved getting up each morning to find we'd won another gold or two!

Well done to Team GB, all you lads & lasses did us proud.

Great stuff. So many great moments, from du Toit, to Degale, to the German weightlifter, to the 10k swim. Then Bolt, Phelps...the list is endless.
