The EU Referendum

How are you voting?

  • Leave

    Votes: 58 56.3%
  • Remain

    Votes: 45 43.7%

  • Total voters
    103
  • Poll closed .
So looks like Scotland get another referendum which could mark the end of Great Britain. Wonder if people voting leave expecting to put the 'Great' back into Great Britain realised they we were giving the SNP the chance to kill it?

They have had it given to them on a plate. Enough people turned out in Scotland to vote to show they want to remain, but not enough turned out to swing the vote into a full UK remain, thus allowing them to go for independence again.

If that happens will be the saddest thing about this whole thing.

Scotland will leave, if that's what their voters want...to turn this on it's head should we have stayed in the EU to placate the Scots, despite it being against the wishes of the English?

Absolutely, they may in the future be able to get a house, training from companies that currently don't, as there is plenty of Labour, though on balance they might have to pay tence more for texts whilst on Holiday!

Also shouldn't that figure be 100 per cent?

They'll also be restricted to the job market of one country as opposed to 28.

With the lies and bollocks Salmond spouts on a daily basis of how Scotland is such a ethopia now and will be even more the land of milk and honey if they get independence, I say save a couple of quid and let them **** off now. Then we can all watch them live off bailouts and handouts for the rest of exsistence. Just like Greece.

Are you serious? :omg: This is blatantly anti-democratic in a way that is worthy of the worst banana republic dictator: “oh yes, we didn’t like the result so we will run the vote again until we get the result we want!”

Now the anti-democratic EU have done exactly this a few times before, which is exactly one of the reasons why 17+ million British voters voted to Leave.

The time to have this kind of petition and debate is BEFORE the referendum is run - you CANNOT change the rules of the game AFTER it has been played - if you felt this why did you not say so before the Referendum and start a petition then?

Let us take an analogy: Germany are playing England in the World Cup Final, and England win by 5 goals to 4, but some commentators say that Germany actually played better, and that a 5 to 4 result is not a fair representation of the match so it must be replayed !

Can you not see not just how ridiculous your suggestion is, but also how dangerous in terms of further alienating people who already feel disenfranchised by the political system ?

The rules were made absolutely clear before the referendum took place. If the Government had said BEFORE the referendum that if the result was a majority of less than X% on a turnout of Y% then a second referendum would be triggered with the following criteria blah blah etc ... then that would be OK, but they did not.

For generation after generation democracy has been very clear: one wo/man one vote and a simple majority wins.

If the result had been the other way around would you be signing the opposite petition – if your answer is “no” then take a long hard look at yourself in the mirror.

The rules of the EU (apparently) state that if a country has an in/out referendum then there should be a second referendum if the vote is less than 60% based a turnout less than 75%. Therefore there should be a 2nd referendum. Just following the rules. Moreover, NF said if the vote was a close remain he would try and invoke that rule, even though the government said they wouldn’t regardless of the outcome.

The people that started this petition obviously couldn't in advance because they didn't know what the turnout would be, and what the percent split in the vote would be. Moreover, I guess they also don't believe that whilst the government are putting the vote to the public, they also get to bypass the rules.

The maths start to make it make sense: 60% of 75% is 45%, i.e. what the rules effectively mean is that over 45% of people have to vote for either in or out for it to be "valid" (for want of a better description).

As it happens turnout was 72.2%, and 51.9% voted out, meaning that only 37.5% (i.e. just over 1/3) actually voted for it.

Not according to Barna, who has assured us that regardless of the result the Freedom of movement will be forced on the UK.

I'll allow you to have that conversation with him!

And according to Professor Michael Dougan, but that depends on the deal we strike with the EU. I suspect they're both right, that we will have to accept free movement of people, but you never know.

What will? Losing the Jocks? Do me a favour! They are a sizeable drain on our economy too, and they'll only be out on their own for about 2 years before they realize that stupid Sturgeon woman is spunking money left, right and centre and they have no means to "go it alone"

Oh well, at least my job will safe as my skills will be in demand to sort out the mess we are left with.

My commiserations to those who will dip below the poverty line as a result of job losses, more expensive imports etc but on the bright-side remember it was you who "took control" and voted to take us into recession!

You won Rigsby, how about being magnanimous as you are still coming across as an angry man.

NO, just a very happy man. Victory should be enjoyed, especially after all the posts from the Remain side.

Blimey mate you really have a chip on your shoulder don't you. Were you touched by an educated uncle as a child?

Nothing wrong with degree educated informed people pal.

Got a chip on our shoulder have we?

Indeed your right, that's why the next generation of the family have all gone to uni.

I did say in my post Some people have come on here and announced their degree and how informed they are as if it makes them more equal than others.

They have spent the last 12 months sneering at certain posters on the zone. Well today is our day yet they still come on and whinge

I genuinely can only think of 2 people that post on here that I know for certain have degrees and even then I couldn't tell you what in.

I think a large proportion on here lord-it over others that they think are talking **** but not in a 'I'm more educated' way. No more than they'd think someone a fool for signing a crock or something.

With a Brexit victory I thought this was a cert when the referendum was first called. The fly in the ointment for them is the dramtic fall in the oil price and this may rather call their ardour for the moment...........we shall see. If they did, it would certainly be one reason to mention if you ever happened to get invited to lunch by the Queen.

I'm not talking about Tangled, I quite like his ramblings.

As the vote got close their were SOME that desperately tried to insult on here and in the media. It proved to be the final straw for many people I spoke to including, one family member who changed their vote to out.

I seriously thought Keith Vaz was going to have a break down live on TV early this morning. He took the scare mongering to a whole new level. Catastrophic for the UK, catastrophic for the EU and catastrophic for the rest of the world was exactly how he worded it :nope: What a plum :hilarious:

Lols at the bitter, social justice warriors outside Boris' house, spitting venom & rage, but would crumble like cardboard in the rain if they ever had to have an actual square go

British confidence is the reason we have a free Europe, indeed a free world. We were the first to create Global trade, the East India company was the biggest there has ever been in History and was run by just 200 people behind a desk.

We will continue to trade with the EU as normal. Plus we have now opened up the future which are the emerging global economies. I am already planning my South American tour this winter with some friends who will be joining me at various points. It will include business, pleasure and football.

For any young person I say forget 'media studies' learn some Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese then head to Brazil.
Its the continent for this century, with lots of opportunities and the best place if you like to live with a smile on your face.

Oh no we won't.Read this.

http://www.theguardian.com/politics...eader-we-want-britain-out-as-soon-as-possible

"Jean-Claude Piris, a former head of the EU council legal service, said claims that Britain would get unfettered access to the single market, without free movement of people, were the equivalent of believing in Father Christmas. He said the British “cannot get as good a deal as they have now, it is impossible”.

Funnily enough, our younger daughter wants to work in Brazil,Luckily for her, she's highly qualified and speaks fluent Portuguese,
