The Essex CCC Thread

What's happened to Westley?
I'm assuming with RtD back the two available batting spots are between him, Godleman and Mickleburgh. Westley probably comes into play if it's a turning pitch but if it isn't and with us having Kaneria available he seems to slip down the pecking order.

Fair point. I thought his record this season was better than it is.

Essex fc averages this year

What is depressing is that the heart of our middle order: Pettini, Walker and RtD have yet to manage a single ton between them.

Well the weather has 'saved' us but really a draw is hardly any better than a defeat. At least we can then blame the rain rather than our awful batting for the relegation.....

Damning stats from YB ^^ .. Ravis' 43 is just about passable in domestic cricket but he is top

Of course we all said that we would find this season a struggle and its turned out just as predicted sad though it is

Hopefully we can win these last 3 CB40s and get through to the semi finals and possible another Lords final (its a day/nighter this year which i think will be a brilliant spectacle)

132-8..............Kaneria second over...................stupid question.......but why wasn't he brought on earlier in an effort to break this stand? Was it the risk of conceding too many runs?

Going to make for an interesting first session. IF we could get 120+ this morning, it could be even more interesting this afternoon..................knowing Essex we"ll probably collapse to 140 all out! A draw is uselesss for either side and I reckon, if the weather holds, we may well have a result..........still favouring Warwicks for the moment.

Obviously going for it. Walker unfortunately victim of an early run out.........Foster 2 fours off six balls............and then out the seventh! Whilst we clearly need a result my fear is that, at the moment, we seem to be throwing caution to the wind. 124-5 with Ten Doe and Pettini at the crease................really need these two to add some runs, quickly but sensibly.
Now 178-9........something to bowl at ..........but not quite enough, I fear.

Essex v Middlesex on Sky later. Vital game, a win would make us the best runner up as things stand however our NRR is a lot worse than the other teams (which surprises me after our brutal beating of Netherlands, does NRR not count from D&L decided games??) so we'll almost certainly need to beat leaders Yorkshire on Sunday as well. A thumping win tonight would be a good start though.

Pld Pts NRR

Group A:
11 18 1.02 Somerset
11 15 1.00 Sussex
11 13 0.00 Surrey

Group B:
11 20 0.47 Yorkshire
11 16 0.52 Gloucestershire
10 15 0.19 Essex

Group C:
11 16 0.30 Warwickshire
11 15 0.46 Nottinghamshire
11 14 0.79 Kent

If we make it the semis will be next Saturday (11th) with the final a week after that.
