The Essex CCC Thread

Great to see Flower finish his County Ground career with a good knock. Much maligned on here a few seasons back but seemed to get better with age (especially when he went OD only) and will be missed next season.

Much maligned? Not as much as RtD! I was wrong on that one as well.

Both RtD and Grant Flower have turned out to be fine servants for Essex, although Grant Flower has been more of an one-day player, he's been a class act in that format and one the likes of Cook and Bopara can surely have learnt from.

I led a rousing rendition of "One More Year, One More Year etc.." from the Pavillion last night, doubt it came over on the telly but Flower certainly heard it while he was being interviewed during his MOTM presentation

A win tomorrow will see us either at Scarborough for a 12:45 start or Taunton for a 5:00 start next Saturday, so either a dawn leave or a late late night but i'm determined to be there come what may, the big sticking point of course is that we must either win at Headingly or hope Gloucester lose at Northants to go through

COME ON ESSEX !!!!!!!!

Essex looking very strong chasing down a decent Yorkshire score of 209/8.

With 11 overs left we're 161/1 with Pettini only just getting out.

EDIT - Flower goes second ball. 162/2.

Not especially relevant as we're all but relegated anyway but we're playing Durham in our final 4 day game of the season. Won the toss, batting and we're 32/1.

Weakened line up with youngsters Comber and Osborne in the bowling attack. RtD and Danish presumably being rested for Saturday.

Paul Grayson:

“We haven’t got a lot to play for against Durham apart from pride and it is an opportunity to give a break to some of our lads towards the end of what has been a gruelling season and also to bring in a couple of younger players”.

“One or two might make their debuts this week which would be good. Danish Kaneria has a slight stomach problem, it’s not serious but it could develop if he played so we want to make sure he’s fit for the weekend. Ryan ten Doeschate’s calf has been a little bit sore in the past few days and that’s understandable because since he’s come back from injury, he has been very full on in practice and matches. So we are not going to risk him. David Masters has carried out a huge workload for us and he’s got a few niggles and aches and we can’t afford to run the risk of him going down injured before Saturday”.

Blueblood, I believe you're a regular poster on the ECCC forum. Why is everything on there about Durham? I go there for Essex news and have to wade through the Durham rubbish to find it.

Because we're playing Durham?;)

I don't often read it, but I think it's because the resident troll on there (latecut) is a Durham fan.

It's apparently raining at Chelmsford.

It's a bit sad it dominates the whole board. Oh well.

Is anybody bothered by today's game? As for the rain, it's drizzled a tiny bit in Southend just now, but not much.

Yep, I think SZ does a far better job of fostering a friendly atmosphere. It's the bickering between galboy and whoever his nemesis is (his name escapes me) that really gets me down.

As for the cricket, this game has more curiousity value than anything else, what with the likes of Comber and Osborne playing. I'm so unfamiliar with them, I have to still check how to spell their names.

Max Osborne, I used to captain him when I played for South Weald a few years back.

Even at 11/12yrs old he bowled accurately and at a decent pace. Could also hit the ball as well.

Nice to see that he's made the jump up through the county system.

Really nice lad, hope he does well.

Nice cameo from Chris Wright, 28 from 30 balls to take us to 268 and Durham are 3/1 in reply with Palladino striking second ball.

Make that 3/2!
