The Essex CCC Thread

this is just going to be a random post hoping to entice a wicket .. i'll leave it for a couple of balls before submitting just in case ... oh dear :'(

one ... more ... ball .. bollocks !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Excellent comment from Holding with regards to Phillips switching to round the wicket

MH ''Have they discovered something''

Yes Smith loves the full ball on the leg stump!!

CC Div 2: Surrey vs Essex

We've made a bit of a stuttering start at Guildford, Chopra fell for just 2 and Amla for 26 .. Maunders is 31* and Walker 4* .. total 66-2

Amla was class the other night at Chelmsford. Not sure how Guildford plays but is an outground and normally you see more than 10 wickets fall in a day. Who won the toss?

An excellent unbeaten 159 from Ryan ten Doeschate and solid support from the tail means Essex have reached 401 all out .. a serious upgrade on our usual first innings efforts this season

Hopefully the Sorrey batsmen will be less up for the fight than our tailenders and we can knock them over pretty quickly

Agree with you Lee, although I am not overly confident of our ability to bowl sides out even Surrey.

Any idea where Maurice Chambers is? I'm assuming he's injured.

I think he has been playing some 2nd XI cricket so he is either rehabiliting or out of form.

2 down for Surrey....Masters has been a really good solid signing.

Looking at Surrey's line up though, blimey how they have fallen. Afzaal in next always used to have promise but no one else seems near to knocking on the England team door, whereas just a few years ago a line up of Stewart, Ward, Butcher, Ramprakash, Thorpe, Hollioakes (A&B), Lewis, Saqlain, Salibury, Bicknell, Ormond were all getting international honours.

How odd ...

Essex are 427-6 at lunch on day 3 in Leicester

Nothing odd about that (well apart from the fact we weren't bowled out for 250 of course)

The oddness comes from the fact 2 balls ago we were 427-4 .. so Allenby begins the last over before lunch, and off the second ball removes Foster for 85, now i was always of the impression that if a wicket falls in the over before a break then play is halted and the over is completed on the resumption, but in this instance ten Doeschate comes to the crease and is out first ball and at this point lunch is taken

It might have been that when Fotser was out, there was still time for 1 more over to be bowled, but by the time RtD got to the crease and was dismissed, there wasn't enough time, if that makes sense....

With England's excellent performance at Headingly, not sure now is the time to point out that after having Gloucester on the ropes, they are now 187 ahead in the first innings.

Anyone been down to Garons so far this week? Hows the ground looking?

Middlesex 34-1.

Napier with the wicket, caught by Ravi .

I noticed in the DT today that Middlebrook has been released. Didn't see that one coming.....
