The Essex CCC Thread

The General said:
64-3. Masters rewarded (once again) for another spell of fantastic bowling with the wicket of Morgan!
Been changed now and given to Napier. 80-3 at the moment, Napes figures 9-4-16-3 :stunned:

Middlesex 34-1.

Napier with the wicket, caught by Ravi .

I noticed in the DT today that Middlebrook has been released. Didn't see that one coming.....

Is that a vote of confidence in Phillips?

Can't say I'm too disappointed. Whilst he played a part in our one-day success Middlebrook was a journeyman bits and pieces player.

2 wickets in 4 balls for Danish leaves Middlesex 207-5, so they should easily make 450......

I popped along for the last hour and a bit. Got there just after this. Bit disappointing really. Napier bowled with some pace, but pitched too short and threw in some pretty wild deliveries. Masters was, as ever, tight but not really threatening. Kaneria didn't look particularly threatening either.

For Middlesex Berg played some nice shots and looked in very good nick but picked up an injury and needed a runner. Robson looked shotless, yet made a ton. Only other Middlesex player I saw was Kartik, meaning I didn't get to see a single English Middlesex player.

Complete disaster for Essex (and England) today. Was thinking of popping along this afternoon, but not sure I can face it

ps WTF was Pettini thinking in electing to field? It was - as forecasted - a gorgeous day with bat, bat, bat, bat written all over it.

Essex have recovered from a very perilous 32-4 to a slightly less perilous 131-4 thanks to James Foster 51* and Matt Walker (no, not THAT one) 46*

Still trail by 225 though :'(

I always do perform best at Lord's...

;)

So it seems ...

Essex 1st innings

JK Maunders c Morgan b Murtagh 23
AN Cook lbw b Murtagh 4
RS Bopara c Kartik b Murtagh 1
MJ Walker not out 130
ML Pettini* lbw b Murtagh 1
JS Foster† run out (Compton) 72
RN ten Doeschate lbw b Murtagh 18
GR Napier lbw b Murtagh 3
DD Masters not out 17

Extras 29

Total (7 wickets; 103.1 overs) 298

Tim Murtagh has taken 6 of the 7 wickets to fall and the other was a run out !!!

Cook gets the 7th wicket!!!

Is goign to be an interesting 4th innings if we can get these last 3 for 50 odd runs..... But being Essex, that's a big if!!

Actually, just noticed Pettini is bowling from the other end. Declaration bowling then. They cant really take that many more overs out of the game if its to be a meaningful finish...
