Question The Acceptance of Mediocrity

What league were we in in 2000 @choggy ?

We are ****ing non-league. Our support deserves better.

Give your whole cretinous body a wobble.
I've seen us in the NL, League 2, League 1 and the Championship, for 40 years now I've been a Southend fan. I've seen it all.

We're only here because we got relegated twice in a row during Covid, when RM unashamedly abdicated his responsibilities as a Chairman of this proud club and left us fielding under-18's against professionals.

If you think that we're destined to spend our time stuck in this tinpot league, with its' tinpot clubs, without a shred of belief that things will get better, then perhaps you should find a plastic PL club to support.

Ron overspent on players and ignored RH because he thought FF and the Championship was the answer.
Funny how some of the posters who shouted from the roof tops about Ron have already turned on COSU...... For the crime of not being like Ron

I get they are only concerned about what happens on the pitch ......Thats because they don't even go to games. They never even donate £5 to Shrimperzone.

They have never run business with why they don't understand how the small but successful EFL clubs operate. Its simple, they make more from their stadium than the do from ticket sales. Shrewsbury made more money in the summer from weddings and events than we will in whole season. The answer isn't always owners should fund my club while I sit on the sofa with my fire stick.

I guess those amongst us who do really support our club are happy with the improvements. Thats because our contribution is far from mediocrity and we don't announce like some pompous **** that we wont be attending if there is no glory in sight......Yet come May the wingers will be there at Wembley..... Complete face paint, comedy wig and big foam thumb.
My two p's worth again.
In the last few years under Ron, not much was spent on players, most of the time he didn't even pay them on time, let alone everything else he didn't spend any dosh on, so scrimping on the pitch, is something I and others are sick of.
As for running a business I have for over 35 years, direct contact with customers, and still plenty of work in the pipeline, I know how to deal with people. A product I came up with sold 150k worth last year ( shame I only get a fraction of it) I have another product launching next year with a multi million pound global company, so I may know a bit of what people need.
I have watched every game this season as a season ticket holder and on TV so I think we can say I back the club.
I worry about OUR strikers not scoring as I read on another thread Pepple could be offski, which i called in a previous post, if that is right, it leaves us in a right state up front.
I think everyone should have their say, especially on here, as you never know what could get back to people who can influence that change, ideas and talk is good. Only seeing one side is bad.

And if Pepple goes, that shows quite a poor lack of judgement on our part. We would be left with very little back up, that's why at least, we should have 2/3 loaned strikers, if our budget to recruit is small, as our current signed strikers aren't bringing home the bacon.... at the moment

Is that on top of Pepple?

So Bim, Bonne, Walker, Waldron and then another 2/3 on loan. No chance of us carrying that big a forward line.

You say loans, we could be in the same situation with Bim possibly going back, with these other 2/3 you mention.

This is why Kev prefers contracted players, hence why we are close to bringing in another, and still interesting in a Step Two striker as welll.

Maybe the strikers aren’t the only issue? Getting more of them in is pointless if we aren’t playing to their strengths. Walker is getting goals. Pepple is getting goals. Bonne is improving/contributing. We need to improve in all areas, not just blow cash on strikers.

If that's not the issue we have to then go down the change of coaching, all I'm saying is that it's great Bim is scoring, but lose him and we lose the ability to score.
Perhaps we should have started last week with our own strikers on the pitch first, with Bim a back up.
We have no back up, 4 goals between 3 strikers, with 2 of them not on the score sheet.
I can see GSM up front over Xmas!

Perhaps that is why Kevin has said we are close to bringing another striker to the Club.

Woah, Danny Waldren hasn't had enough starting minutes to be judged in this discussion.

Nothing like over exaggerating on SZ is there?

You want us to have 7 strikers, where does the budget come from for that, without impacting the rest of the squad.

I’d suggest it’s not just the strikers that are an issue. How many games have you walked away from, as you mentioned you’ve been to all of that, and spoken about golden chances missed by Pepple, Bonne or Walker? I won’t bring Waldron in as he has barely played.

We don’t miss many guilt edge chances, Bonne has had a couple, but we have more of an issue in creating those guilt edge chances.

Where have I walked away from any games, you seem to make it up as you go along?

Come on all pile on, I would love to see a club run by you lot, fingers and toes crossed all round. We need to make things happen, not just hope it will.

Is mediocrity having a group of well respected local businessmen putting their own money into the club, paying off past debt and investing in an infrastructure that can support the fan base not only in the National League but in the Football League as well?

Is mediocrity having a Southend legend managing the club, who won manager of the year at this level last season, and who has the best interests of the club at heart?

Is mediocrity having a recruitment department run by a National League legend with a branch of contacts reaching across the country, scouting the best of local and national talent?

If mediocrity is that then I’m in.
