Thanks Kev - but is a new manager needed?

This argument of falling attendances is a fallacy to me.

People moan every year about not renewing, and yet you still see their names pop up in the post match threads the following season.

We have the same core fanbase as we did when we were on our way to the League One title a decade ago.

This is true until it isn't. Should things continue as they are, I wont be renewing my 4 tickets next season and would probably limit which games I choose to go to until there was a change. This is as someone who has been to the majority of home games and a few away for as long as I can remember.

For the first time, I chose not to attend last Saturday and am unsure if I'll go to the next home game.

Yes that's just 4 tickets. But i'd suggest there is a real turn in the tide.

I have brought this up a few times. His main focus seems to be on the officials, especially the 4th Official. They all seem to get a bollocking, and he's in their ear all the time. I bet they hate officiating Southend. No wonder he gets booked so much, or sent to the stands. I would rather he concentrates on the game, our players, the opposition players, and maybe changing tactics or players earlier, depending on what's happening on the pitch. I'm one of Kev's biggest supporters. I know how tough he had it before COSU. I know the endless hours he put in without pay. I know he helped staff and players out of his own pocket when they weren't being payed. I know he had his hands tied for so long. Things must be bad for me to have a go at him. Come on COSU. Back him, or sack him. I know we're to close to signing at least 2 players, but this is a crisis at this club. The unbelievable support, many of which have come back to the club because of the takeover, are starting to exit.
Speaking as someone who has only recently gone from on the fence to thinking Maher should go I think this is the main point, this season at least he can't seem to get a tune out of these players, the team has changed and were not as strong. If we can't replace them with worthy players then he's not going to succeed so as you say ultimately, sack him or back him.

If our budget/recruitment is not going to improve and this is the best we can afford then maybe Maher isn't the man for the job as he clearly was last season.

I am starting to think the effect it had when Kensdale left was bigger than we realised and I don't mean from a playing perspective, are the players playing for him like they once were?

I won't stop going but no one can argue that it's entertaining. It's dire, uninspiring, soul destroying football. I think we were more attacking under Phil Brown.

It's interesting that the majority of the silent 46.7% majority remain silent. That may be because they still remember what Kevin Maher did for Southend United during the dark years, and they hope that he can do it again now we are finally free of the rat. I'm one of the 46.7% and I still believe that given the tools he can succeed again. It's a fact of life on social media that normally those with an anti opinion will post loud and often, whereas the silent majority post very little, content with only casting their vote.
I'm not sure how maths works in your neck of the woods, but 47% will never be a 'majority'. The majority are either pro-firing or on the fence.

47% in favour of him staying is the lowest it has been since the poll started and is shrinking by the hour. The momentum has shifted significantly since the Barnet debacle and the Dagenham game becomes of even more significance,

For sure. And if that should come to pass it’ll not only be sad that fellow shrimpers feel that way, but it’ll certainly be something COSU have to address.

Due to Ron’s continuous mismanagement, I gave up going regularly for an extended period of time. Whatever the issue, we all reach the end of our tether eventually.

The point is, whilst I was away, the attendance remained relatively consistent & it’s likely more were boycotting/avoiding RH back then than they are now.

I believe it’ll stay that way even if Maher is still in charge come August.

With the season card totals added to walk ups each match regardless, the actual amount of people in the ground has already significantly dropped, that was told to me by the head steward.
I can think of at 6 season card holders that are not attending atm.

I'm not surprised. My weekend routine has been set in stone for some time - up at 7am to listen on BBC Essex every Saturday morning. Can't be arsed now - a good lay in seems a much more attractive prospect.

If the Crowds dwindle to around 3,500 I suggest we charge a tenner for a burger but get them served by the players before the game
At the end of every home defeat the players rush off to line up at every exit and when there constantly bow below waist level, like the Japanese, to offer fulsome apologies for another dire performance
It would bring back a certain closeness and sense of Community

Would you consider that a boycott? An active decision not to go to watch the team you support without extenuating circumstances.

Seen a few people suggest Paul Hurst... Just a reminder he has stunk the gaff in his last 2 roles. Rode a crest of a wave with John Mcatee guiding them to promotion from this league but has ultimately failed in every job since his first stint at Shrews.

90% of managers are 'failures', that's why they are out of work. How many managers are out there with mostly successful careers?

Us and many other sides aren't going to be able to get a manager with 80% win record.

I don't know. I'm not angry. I honestly don't enjoy it at the moment. Maybe it's getting older?

I've done the long away journeys, going to reserve games in the afternoons on my lunch breaks. I was even there for the wildly successful silent protest.

I 've been to almost every home game since we were relegated so I know what to expect. I don't think i've a divine right to top quality entertainment every week.

I guess i'd compare it to stopping watching a series you were really into.

In my humble opinion, I am not enjoying the style of football and i'm a bit disappointed with COSU. Of course very grateful as we all are. I just think there are some very basic things being missed considering the wealth of experience within the group.

Do you think that's because they're not given enough time to restructure, change squad members etc etc? Or does it depend on what you define as 'success'?
