Thanks Kev - but is a new manager needed?

Everyone accepts that Maher has had to endure a torrid time in charge and has not been able to bring in the players he wants. However, for me, he has repeatedly proven he cannot get the best of what he has at his disposal and I see no reason that will change with different personnel. I am sure he could make a better fist of things but, whether stubborn or naive, he refuses to change. We are not promotion material, IMHO, yet we are too good for the absolute cack we are producing. I still want KM to succeed with us but, I really do not believe anymore that he will.

You do have to start to question why COSU haven't given Maher any backing during the transfer window. 21st of January and the only incoming player is ****e 4th choice emergency goal keeper from league 2. Are COSU doubting Maher and co....... quite possibly given our league position and the style of football on display I doubt will please COSU. maybe they are preparing for change which will give new manager the rest of the season to evaluate the squad and to see if he can get tune out of some underperforming players. Given how small our squad is you would of thought there would be couple signings through the door even just to give the management team and squad moral boost as such. Something tells me all is not well and soon changes will happen. The daggers game could be bigger game than first anticipated.

Maybe just a glimmer of hope that perhaps COSU are preparing to make a decision shortly.

No real signings in January with squad desperately in need of bolstering. You do have to start questioning whether COSU have given up on Maher. I do think if we lose against daggers in a way which gets heavily criticised then there's decision to make. 1 thing COSU would hate is the attendances at Roots Hall to spiral downwards.

And he may well have been right. With hindsight getting rid of Powell signalled the beginning of our death spiral. Powell was another one hampered by the fact that we didn’t replace a departed (injured) striker
Can’t be bothered getting in to all that again. Powell ripped the heart and soul out of our squad. Stripped all the characters away because he was too much of a nice guy who couldn’t handle personalities and replaced them with absolute crocks.

To add to the above, maybe Kev should watch the game more rather than shouting at the officials all the time (or some bloke yelling 'shoot' from the stands)
I have brought this up a few times. His main focus seems to be on the officials, especially the 4th Official. They all seem to get a bollocking, and he's in their ear all the time. I bet they hate officiating Southend. No wonder he gets booked so much, or sent to the stands. I would rather he concentrates on the game, our players, the opposition players, and maybe changing tactics or players earlier, depending on what's happening on the pitch. I'm one of Kev's biggest supporters. I know how tough he had it before COSU. I know the endless hours he put in without pay. I know he helped staff and players out of his own pocket when they weren't being payed. I know he had his hands tied for so long. Things must be bad for me to have a go at him. Come on COSU. Back him, or sack him. I know we're to close to signing at least 2 players, but this is a crisis at this club. The unbelievable support, many of which have come back to the club because of the takeover, are starting to exit.

I think you've put it really well there. Kev is a legend for what he has done for this club in the past. However is he the right man to take this club forward? Not for me. Any other manager would of have been replaced by now.

I know the lack of communication and activity is difficult to fathom, and hence we cast around looking for what can explain the apparently inexplicable. I suggest they’re not. Sometimes it’s just ineptitude- whether that been broken processes, ball dropping, lack urgency, disinterest or whatever….

Why do you think COSU have forgotten all the promises about communication and are hiding out of sight? Is it they are just happy for Kev to take all the incoming?

Is it that they think the potential signings will make everything more positive so they are just happy to sit on their hands and ignore all the noise?

I have no doubt Kev is going nowhere but I’m far from convinced how this is being handled..

There's a lot coming from the Kev out band. ( myself included) I would like to hear more from the 47% that want him to stay. Is it what he's done for Southend or is it another reason.

Don't forget that at least twice he has bollocked his home, paying supporters, no more please!

Well, he has shown incredible loyalty the the club through our darkest times, as has been said even helping people out of his own pocket. Just last season he was lauded for what he achieved both by supporters, the owners and football pundits everywhere.

Now just 6 months and 20 games later that loyalty means nothing, and for sure is not reciprocated by some. All the happy just to have a club and take time to build was never meant. Just words. He has yet to have anything like the support he deserves, despite the alternative facts. ITKs have repeatedly explained this, for example, explaining how recruitment was so badly impacted in the summer. Something to which some simply refuse to listen, Even now in an, at last, fruit drink free window, even if January (and yes we can sign out of the window but that seems to make no difference) there seems to be a sudden new hurdle- the cast of thousands have a new "process" that is proving difficult to bed in...

COSU on one hand have rewarded him and the management team with long contracts which is clearly positive support. On the other at the moment they all seem to be hiding behind the sofa letting Kev take all the flack. Not a good look and seemingly not a little weak. Maybe they need a vote on what to say. I don't know.

What I do feel, even allowing for how fickle football supporters often are, is how quickly some have turned on Kev is very, very unfair. I am grateful for what the management team did to hold us together when it would have been easy for it all to fall apart. And I find an unwillingness to allow Kev and the management team time to make the changes they need, bring in the people they need, to have a crack at the rest of this season and the next, without restrictions, whether through fruit drinks or broken internal "processes", completely lacking in gratitude.

As you ask and it's just just my opinion. And clearly 1 in 3 on here would not agree with me. Everyone's opinions should of course be respected.

It's interesting that the majority of the silent 46.7% majority remain silent. That may be because they still remember what Kevin Maher did for Southend United during the dark years, and they hope that he can do it again now we are finally free of the rat. I'm one of the 46.7% and I still believe that given the tools he can succeed again. It's a fact of life on social media that normally those with an anti opinion will post loud and often, whereas the silent majority post very little, content with only casting their vote.

If COSU have invested 9 to 10 million in blues so far, do you really think paying off a couple of contracts would stop them pulling the trigger. The product they bought isn't working, and any worse performances could bring the axe down. I'm sure they are not happy with the current situation, and would imagine KM has a time limit to turn it around.
COSU must include some Alan Suger types, who don't take kindly to excuses
A cheaper option would be to remove KM and let DC step up, to see if anything changes, Tilly was given the job temporarily while they were looking for others, this could happen again.

Like earning enough points to make it into the playoffs with dual contract players, cast offs and one man on the bench?
