Thanks Kev - but is a new manager needed?

Should Maher go?

It Doesn’t help we’ve lost some of the more mobile players like Powell and Fonguck, despite the fact they weren’t setting the world alight talent wise their work rate and energy helped us to press, something we’ve seen very little of this season. Then you lose Cardwell and Kensdale and add Bonne and Moncur in and the team (and others) and our high tempo is gone.

It must have been Mahers decision to get rid of Fonguck and Powell, perhaps he believed he could replace them with better players but that now looks to be a mistake. Poor recruitment as well as dire performances. I’d like to be wrong but I can’t see a way we’ll end up successful under Maher at the moment.
Please, not the Powell and Fonguck suggestion again 🤔 They were very average players for this level. They struggled to even make the 1st team because they just weren't good enough. You need more than just being able to run around a lot. Powell was a striker and his finishing was woeful

Powell was 2 Leagues below the standard but Kev did try to justify him.
Fonguck worked well with Bridge and he hasn't been the same since, Kev hated Fonguck about as much as he does KAF and Morton, what a strange manager we have?

The game against Barnet was awful and we never looked like scoring.

If Kev did go, who is out there to take over?

I can't see Harris dropping to the NL.

Oh, I could. Local lad. Barrett as his assistant. Perfect life / work balance
For the first 10 games then the abuse would start, and that will be local too. I can hear it now. 442, we never wanted 442. My God this is boring. Whose idea was this? Harris out? Barrett out? Can't believe we got taken apart by X- there again they play 352- only three at the back, more attacking, exciting, that's the way to go? Surely they know 442 is for the dinosaurs?

I think if we can't raise our game against Dagenham. With a sold out away end and most of the noise coming from the shrimpers. If we play flat with no urgency. It should be blood, guts and thunder. I can guarantee Barry Fry would have them up for it in his prime. But if it is flat crab football. Then you can say the players are the ones calling time on Kev.

I'm not suggesting we should re-sign them or that we shouldn't even have got rid of them but the reality is that now those have gone we're a slower team and don't press as much which contributed to our success more than I realised at the time. We did not replace these players well enough that's my point. Choosing to get rid of them and not replacing them effectively was a mistake if you're not willing/capable to change your style of play.

Agreed!
But the issue of two out, two in at the same time is an ask.
Consider how tricky negotiating two new contracts at the same time as showing two more the door - then you see the problem.
However, if you want our club to be fair to its employees like Wes and CP you have to front up. You have to tell them time is up rather than drain what transfer/wages money we have.

He doesn't 'hate' anyone, does he?
And for the 40th time, Fonguck rarely worked well with anyone, not least his connection to the back of the net!

I understand that and thats why you can't moan about the loss of Cardwell, the season had started and someone paid his release clause, with Fonguck and Powell it was in the summer and I appreciate we were under an embargo but we haven't seemingly identified players of the same type since. To have any chance we need to play with a higher tempo I think as it stands, that would at least catch teams off guard to what were doing, it's way too slow at the moment
