Thanks Kev - but is a new manager needed?

Should Maher go?

How dare I defend Kev, I know that’s not a very fashionable thing to do…I’ll continue to defend Kev, whether it makes me look silly or not.
It's not about being fashionable, those that are bashing Kev have eyes and are spending too much every week to be bored and suffer losses.
If he turns it around I would be the first to say I am wrong, however unless he changes the team selections and plays football that suits the players HE brought in, rather than the same tactics game after game that do not work, we will be a boring lower NL team. Although I will continue to support the Shrimpers, I and many will not be anywhere near happy.
Your poor snarky comments won't change that.

If you look back at the most recent clubs that have got promoted and their managers.

Last season:
Chesterfield - Paul Cook - Experienced manager who had money to spend and a decent squad.

Bromley - Andy Woodman - experienced coach, first proper management role and built a proper National League team that played National League Football to get their way out of the league. Plastic pitch probably helped them with their home form.

2022/2023:
Wrexham - Phil Parkinson - experienced manager, bought their way out of the league.

Notts County - Luke Williams - not the most experienced of managers but did well, bought the goal machine and spent money on some top quality players to get out of the league.

2021/2022:
Stockport County - Dave Challinor - came in November time with the club 9th and won the league without losing too many on the way. Had a decent budget, good squad. Experienced in the National League.

Grimsby Town - Paul Hurst - experienced manager who was being touted for our manager job around the time he got the Grimsby job. Bounced straight back unlike many. Had a decent squad of players.

What is the point of this? Just really to see if there is any sort of blueprint in recent years on how to get out of this league and who is the right man?

Blank chequebooks are nice, look at those up the top this season. York, Barnet and FGR have all spent well and have big budgets. Bromley were proof that if you do the bully tactics and play National League football you can go up. Borehamwood nearly did it playing that dreadful style of football.

Who would be the perfect replacement? It’s difficult to say we either get lucky and someone comes in with the current set of players and the tactics/set up clicks. Or you get someone come in and buys the next Langstaff/Pearce from the league below and spends loads of money.

I am in the camp where I think we need a change, however I just can’t see COSU doing it. But I am also in the camp of I would love nothing more than Kev and Co to turn it all around.

If he were to get it right I would be very pleased. I always wanted him to succeed with us. Lets reframe the question, what are all those clamouring for his support going to do if he continues to get it wrong?
I think the people supporting Maher as manager would say that this is a bit of a false premise.

With this examples, it's not always about the size of their chequebook but about their ability to move quickly and sign players to improve the team. The consistent transfer embargos have stopped us signing our primary targets for over 2 years. If we can move quickly and decisively on players over the next 6 month then we will also have a shot at promotion. It's not just the managers of those clubs that took them up.

Don’t see where I’ve put a “poor snarky comment”, especially when you’ve said defending Kev makes me look silly, but you’ve got your opinion.

Think it’s time to log off here for Christmas. Merry Christmas everyone!

Not sure what is happening on the training ground but if there is a patterns of play, positive tactics or even free kick routines then nothing is being transferred onto the pitch.

No, people seem to forget that even when we were winning, the football was still poor and negative, always passing out wide when we could just welly it. It's just now the luck isn't going for us like it did. We are not a bad squad we are badly set up!
wow... 1970s called and want you back.

Show me a side that "just wellies it".

York played a very similar style to us, very "possession first" based. Thought ANG was very good in that system though, and they should have been out of sight in first half.

I voted for a change , but.. if Kev and the team were after Pearce Fitz and male ( the keeper) then to me it seems that (embargo aside) they were at least looking in the right direction!

I think give him and the team a window from January , and maybe summer ( assuming we are not relegated) and see where they go with their new first choice signings

Yea - hes GOT to have a chance to build a team with his first choices. Who knows, this style MIGHT be the right way, but just hasnt got the players to pull it off (tbf, for sake of balance, then Kev should be abandoning this style to get some system that works for the side).

I'm far from a Kev fan (certainly in terms of the direction he wants to play), but fans have got to be fair (and realistic) - he's probably NEVER signed a first choice pick. Think about that. Multiple windows and he's been having to do with picking up absolutely last ditch picks. You cant honestly realise that and still put all the mess at his door, thats incredibly unfair.

Look at the players that we've supposedly lost out on, some big names who are doing very good things at this level. As I said in another post, sign those and who knows where we are right now. Are we winning at York to go top?...

What I am saying is the amount of times we have had a clear chance and choose not to and play out wide or pass when hitting is the better option. Our tactics are terrible and that shows by our league position.
