Thanks Kev - but is a new manager needed?

Should Maher go?

The continued notion that “predictable responses after a match", “substitutions that I didn’t agree with or understand”, “having a go at well-meaning fans for sharing their well-considered feedback", or "failing to give a chance” to the Ballon d’Or-in-waiting who can’t convince the leadership team over weeks and months in training, are reasonable justification for removing the guy who literally kept the club from slipping into the abyss the last couple of years is mind-blowing.

In a way I find this section disrespectful to the manager - yes he has faults but this trial by jury after each match has got boring. Please can we bin it
Not a chance I'm afraid. We have to allow views from both sides of the track, even if it takes 112 pages to debate/discuss the argument over and over again. Relegation is looking highly unlikely, and despite our performances being lacklustre/pedestrian/schizophrenic/expected in the circumstances (delete as appropriate), we are still in with chance of the play-offs. Unless something now occurs that gives COSU no alternative, then Kevin Maher and his coaching team will see out this season, and will lead us in to the next one, better equipped to finally show our wares to the world. Best not return to this thread, that's what I've finally decided to do.

Everyone’s allowed an opinion, even if you disagree. I’m feeling very frustrated that we’ve only taken 2 points from the last two games, if we’re serious about pushing for the play offs we had to win one at least. We’re being hampered right now as our players in the final 3rd aren’t good enough IMO. Kev’s signed them all, bar Waldron, since COSU took charge.

Should Kev go? Maybe not right now, but the squad needs an overhaul of attacking options in the summer. Unfortunately 3 of the current 5 ‘strikers’ who can’t hit a barn door are under contract, so it might not be that easy. Even Kev’s supporters argue we should judge after he has a summer transfer window. I’m happy to defer until then, and hope he gets the summer signings right, but I still have big doubts.

I understand where you are coming from and I am fully supportive of the ethos of allowing differing opinions to be expressed and given a platform for ongoing debate. I have said this on a previous post.
A Manager and their or their teams performance will always be a topic for ongoing discussion among supporters, it's in the DNA.
I just feel that this thread, originated in November with the purpose of gauging the feeling if it was time for a change in management has run its course. A question was posed and subsequently answered with a No, if you adhere to a first past the post outcome.
The concept of this thread has had it's shelf life.
SZ provides plenty of opportunity for ongoing debate around managerial tactics, team selection and performance, you only have to visit the pre and post match threads to see that.
Sorry but there is something inappropriate in it still being an open status given it's original purpose and having had it's answer. I can understand why some feel it is also become disrespectful.

Respectfully disagree here.

The original question highlighted Kev's unchanging, negative tactics and our inability / unwillingness to take a shot. Have those questions been answered? Most recent performances say no.

The in/out % has swung both ways in recent weeks and personally I feel it's a great indicator to gauge the general mood.

We head down a dangerous road when threads get closed because people are offended by a perfectly reasonable question.

I appreciate that the opening post of the thread did set the rationale for the question asked, but the essence was, is this the time for KM to go? and even after an elongated voting window and the ebb and flow of opinions there has never been a majority Yes achieved.
I think you appreciate that I am not opposed to continued debate about performance but believe the specific of the question posed has been answered.
I agree it would be totally unacceptable (within boundaries) for a thread to be closed just because they find something offensive in the question asked. The question itself was well entitled to be asked and indeed be answered as it has been in my humble opinion, well for now anyway. 😉 Being positive we will all look back and laugh about this when we secure a play off spot! 🤪

Again, all views for or against or anything in between regarding any subject, (as long as within site rules), are allowed on SZ. That’s what forums are for. Open discussion and debate.

If you do not like the tone of a particular thread, then you are not forced to read or take part. Just don’t open it, particularly if you know something has happened that will make it catch light. For instance with this thread, a few negative results or performances.

We do our best to remove anything inflammatory or against site rules, but it does also require a little self policing and posters not to act like children. Please report anything you feel breaches the rules, particularly personal abuse, which will not be tolerated.

Lastly, please do not forget there is an ignore function which allows you to place any member of your choice on ignore (Not the mods, lucky you) which will mute any of their posts. So if there’s a particular poster that winds you up with their viewpoint, place them on ignore.

112 pages indicates strong rumblings of discontent.

Perhaps that we are still within reach of the playoffs there is no answer for now and wins, draws and losses will be reflected in both messaging and voting.

He's not going to be sacked and will be given a decent pre season of training and support.

If that is indeed the case, it will also come with a tougher expectation and target - more investment, higher targets.

That's the point at which Maher and his coaching team will be judged.

Therefore I've personally at least come to the conclusion that this thread is a moot point - mostly because the yes, nos and not sures are both subjective and somewhat irrelevant at this time.

The thread clearly plays a role for all to share their concerns in one location rather than in other threads like the match reviews for example where the emotion is most likely and rightly so be displayed - and we know how the collective hates a good off topic movement !

He's done some incredible things in the past 3+ years of which we the collective are grateful for.

He was able to inspire a seriously depleted squad to over perform and bring a team with a massive points deduction within touching distance of the play offa.

Now rightly so many fans believe he should have a fairer opportunity to build a team to compete and implement his ideas on football.

That we are still in touching distance of the playoffs again suggests that he style is working and requires more time and better players.

Conversely however there are many fans - rightly or wrongly- that believe that the performances this year - without the noise of prior years - should be a base line of playoffs not touching distance.

The football management - quality of new players, mentality, game and team setup, reasoning, for outcomes - appears to have ongoing significant faults from a paying customer perspective - with the same challenges continuing.

The football has also arguably been of lower excitement - where winning and results are the preferable trade and arguably have been equally low in that trade.

Therefore if next season, there is investment there will be higher expectations and more defined objectives.

It will be year 4 for Maher and the coaching team and progress and hitting those expectations and targets both from a COSU and fan perspective will be important.

Then the judgement and pressure will be and should be there on whether he and the coaching team have the ability to lift the team to the higher echelons of the table and promotion.

Therefore I agree that this thread should continue but there will be no outcome for now - 112 may turn to 212 but it's next season where there will be or should be less excuses - unless of course the objective is to meander at this level for the foreseeable future

Personally as I've shared many times, I don't think mahers approach to football and leadership will enable us to promotion and beyond and I remain in the out vote - but happy to be proven wrong.

That said 112 pages is quite the debate and if it was my company, I would love and appreciate the passion, engagement and interest from the customer base but somewhat concerned that consistently 50% are unhappy which equates or could equate to lost customer revenue.

I'm ever hopeful as a fan, unconvinced on our current approach to football success and curious to see what happens with this season and the summer - but my benchmark expectation and unemotional connection to the past (loyalty can be blinding) is higher for the club with it's fan base and resources.

Which says it all, you clearly do not have any answer!
Not true. Like the poster you're trying to goad, I disagree with you, but I would no longer bother engaging. Why? Because there isn't any point. You are entrenched with your overwhelming negativity and those with contrary opinions, like me, are entrenched with ours. So what's the point? Even the component reasons for our respective opinions remain unchanged.

I understand why this thread remains open due to the very nature of a forum, but I'm done with this thread from now.

Its pretty clear kev et al will be here next season, and i hope it goes well

I am concerned that we'll start the season with 90% the same squad and maybe a few rough diamonds on the bench.

i wonder what the mood will be when we start next season at home in a defensive formation with husin, miley and bridge in midfield, Hopper and walker up front, with bonne coming on in the 80th minute, lose 1-0 are bored ****less, and kev says Tamworth are a big side, they ask a lot of questions....

It all feels very stale to me, but as ever 4 top signings that gel can make all the difference. I'll be glad to see the back of this season tbh.

I would say that scenario is most unlikely. Without doubt there will be changes in the make up of the squad. I am not going to speculate as to who might be released or allowed to leave, lets enjoy the ride.

With all but 4 players(?) contracted for next season already it's almost certain that 80 to 90% of the squad will be the same - regardless of who is manager.
