Thanks Kev - but is a new manager needed?

Should Maher go?

Still wouldn’t be enough for some posters , the only way to satisfy is public execution, bring in new management and start again in 6 months with tirade x
No different to any other club with any other manager unfortunately.

A few things to note.
  • We're all thankful for the miracles he's performed
  • We want him to do well
  • He's doing a great job as it stands
  • His tactics are often stubborn and inflexible
  • Some believe he's not the right man, medium to long term
All of these can be true at the same time.

Not really. Statistics and general wisdom say it takes a manager 2-3 transfer windows to really build their squad. We might not have transfer windows, but we're still aligned to them.

What is really needed is patience, but most people don't have that.
Most clubs and new managers these days, when appointing a new manager, will always say they have a five year plan.

And they keep banging on about it ad nauseam.

This has become a great myth amongst fair percentage of our fans. I have heard plenty of waffle and word salad and still no one has explained this to me

Plenty of other things I could aim at Kev but inflexible?......Or stubborn because he won't pick Jack Wood or KAF.......Neither would I.

When...we can actually judge Kev on football alone, have at it. But given the ridiculous situation the club started in this season its still not been a level playing field for kev.
IF next season starts pear shaped, THEN we can truly judge the football on its merits.
Please explain your quote 'it's still not been a level playing field for kev'
Are you saying that because of the restraints that he had to work under at the beginning of the season he has got a 'free hit' for the whole season?
Whereas I admit pre-season hampered the our start are you stating that the performances that we have witnessed in the second half of the season e.g Maidenhead (a) are due to the same factors?

Apparently KM's Southend managerial record to date is:- P173 W73 D41 L59 win percentage 42.2
We really need to keep this poll going considering the massive underachieving. Such a poor win percentage over his time in charge given such continued abundance of squad availability and the high transfer budget that he has had at his disposal with no impediments to recruitment, shameful! 🤪🙄😉

If we were in the football league (the only place I can find the stats for) Maher would now be in the elite top ten of managers for the time served at their Current club..

There are only three longer-serving managers/head coaches in the National League:
Alan Devonshire (Maidenhead United) 05/05/2015
Phil Parkinson (Altrincham) 28/04/2017
Dean Brennan (Barnet) 20/09/2021

Doesn't mask the fact that most of his tenure the football has been boring. I am happy we are starting to turn it around a bit and more than happy to be proved wrong by Kev and he does indeed bring us up, and play a decent entertaining style.

Respect your opinion and observation, although arguably both Boring and Exciting football are subjective. Their perception is in the eye of the beholder, aesthetic not statistical. Judging the stats they don't really justify a removal from the job which is the question this thread by it's title continues to ask, although personally, as we head into the fourth month since it's posting I feel it's already had it's answer.

How much more evidence is needed that under Maher we will never be serious promotion contenders? The second half was typical of so many performances over the years, dull, unimaginative, lack of pace, no movement, questionable timing of substitutions etc etc. The late goal was welcome but does not disguise the serious shortcomings of the methods and philosophy of the chief coach, whose post match comments were as usual entirely predictable but self revelatory at the same time.

Entirely predictable comment.

This league is pony, and has baring a few sides, has been there last few seasons, so I personally feel that win percentage should be a lot higher.

I'm not going to deny Maher did well when he first got here, and also did well last season (though, even with a 10 point deduction I felt we should have made the playoffs, but dropped some poor points!).

What frustrates me about Maher is he sets up us too defensive in most games - always worrying about the opposition "this is a tough place to come, blah, blah, blah". Dropping players for his favourites (such as Morton for Miley, and now Bonne for Hopper). These are things I can't see will be any different after a proper pre-season!
