Thanks Kev - but is a new manager needed?

There's no doubt that a slight change of style has occurred in the last few games with less of the sideways and backwards approach. Was this directly from Kev and co ,or has a gentle word come from above . Play offs should be the minimum aim this season ,and negative tactics have lost us many points. If we finish with a good run and positive play another season will be no doubt be given .
An improvement in confidence and mentality. Not style.

Anybody who thinks Maher's desired style is perennial sideways and backwards is barking up the wrong tree.

Can see it now:

Sky Sports: “After four successful promotions and now 8 points clear top of the Premier League Southend fans celebrate their long running post seeking to sack the manager getting its 30,000th post. The post count went up significantly last week after Southend’s 7-0 demolition of Brentford when a disgruntled fan posted that he saw a sideways pass in the 32nd minute. The post calling for the manager immediate dismissal attracted 107 likes…”

Echo sports news.. "after 6 terrible relegations, Southend are currently 10 points adrift at the bottom of the Southend and Basildon football league, a new thread on Shrimperzone has appeared, the closing of all negative posts about the management 5 years ago has helped to gloss over Southend Uniteds problems. Rayleigh Boys under 15s 6th goal was followed by a second Southend goal for Bonne, with the score at 6 - 1 to RB the 5 remaining Blues fans decided to leave Oakwood park.
Kevin and the backroom staff who recently had their contracts renewed for another 10 seasons, blamed the travellers who had just parked their caravan on the park next to the goal for the lack of chances.
After 2 posters said that it may help our prospects if we changed formation, the mods closed the thread, and informed the Labour Party of the hate speech, they were arrested and taken immediately to Chelmsford prison .

There’s a lot of talk about certain posters wanting Maher to fail and while I don’t think this is wrong, I do wonder whether the situation has been made worse by other posters of the ‘Maher in’ crowd.
We’re now doing ok so naturally I’ve been a lot quieter but earlier in the season we would play atrociously, show no desire to attack, make poor substitutions and tactical decisions and certain posters would deny we played badly and defend KM to the hilt. Which is the same as certain posters in the ‘Maher out’ crowd are doing now.

So I think it works both ways. When we’re winning the Maher out can look unreasonable and when we go on a bad run it changes round.
People need to stop digging each other out and be allowed to voice an opinion, whether they’re right or wrong.

I hope the things I’ve said are wrong and we go on to win the playoffs but I’m still far from convinced by our performances. Today’s game included so far.

With you aside from your first point.

I don't think anyone wants Maher to fail but it's only fair of the Maher out crowd to hold his feet to the fire if performances aren't up to scratch.
He's incredibly naive if he doesn't expect as such - it's literally part and parcel of the job.

On the flipside, Maher in team often defend him to the hilt; whether that's because of his credit in the bank, whether they have connections to the club or associated organisations, or any other reason, that's their perogative.

Everyone has their reasons but we're all stubborn and set in our ways. What happened to agreeing to disagree?

I’ve been in the Maher out camp for a while now and I’m saying the first bit to try and be fair and balanced I suppose.
Reading some of the posts by certain people, it can almost look like a personal attack on Maher at times but then maybe those people have been on the end of abuse from him, it wouldn’t surprise me at all.

Both sides can go too far that’s my point and people arguing and insulting each other helps no one. We’re never all going to agree.

Personally I always try not to criticize other posters views even if I disagree with them as it’s a debate. I’m sure some people only come on here to score points against each other though.

I haven't forgotten Maidenhead away and I don't need to be questioned on what matches I have attended especially when many who comment on here admit to watching on TV.
However, I have seen enough football (my first match at RH was in 1968 and I have been a regular ever since) to know that no team is fantastic every week and if you genuinely support Sufc you enjoy the good days. Back on topic, COSU have my support in taking a long term view and rewarding KM and the coaches for their loyalty and success (last season Manager of the Year lets not forget). It might be a results business but in any business you can expect some bumps along the road. Also, several regular posters seem to be saying their issue is the 'boring/defensive/crab' methods the manager employs. Interesting to watch the comments of the Halifax manager about our team and manager. Note his reference to 'strange murmurings'.....
If you actually attend matches, the criticism of team and coaches is far less than on SZ and social media for some reason.
Not where I sit!

I’m still on the fence over Kev future. I do think he’s a nice bloke, but I just don’t think he has the necessary attributes as a coach to get us promoted.
I still believe the COSU will give him the necessary backing in the summer and a full season.
I do understand that it’s been incredibly difficult for all players, staff and importantly the supporters. The past few years have been like a groundhog nightmare, things will get better. Sometimes I’m quite critical of our playing style and need to be more patient. But I do understand some of the criticism aimed at Kev & co from other posters.

I can understand the thinking from the MODS on not closing this thread but from my perspective since November I have voted (once) and commented a few times. But I do believe that from the original question asked and the current standing of the poll it has run its course and served its purpose.
I would favour its closure as personally there is almost a inappropriate feeling towards its continuation due to a real lack of relevance based on our current league position and recent results.
The question posed has in the here and now been answered.
Don't get me wrong here, everyone has the right to hold their own opinion and I believe through other threads such as the match ones ample and ongoing opportunities to express them, indeed as many continously do, which ever side of the fence, or on it, they sit.
