Kev's biggest issue when he came in was that the squad balance wasn't right. There weren't enough players of peak age. We're clearly intent on rectifying that, but I certainly don't think he'll turn his nose up at a player of quality just because they are north of 30 years old.

As others have said, it wasn't the age of the players that was necessarily the issue, it was that they weren't the type of older players that could play 40 games a season. Plenty can.
It was also because we were signing players because of their performances before 30 and not accounting for their decline.

James Dunne was signed on the basis of his performances three years earlier before Brown was sacked by Swindon. Barnet fans told us his legs were gone and they weren’t wrong.

Will Atkinson was signed on the basis of his performances for Brown five years earlier. He’d dropped below even our level and had then been out of football for a year.

Josh Coulson was signed on the basis of promotions achieved in 2013/14 and 2018–19. His performances had dropped off and he was benched for all the second half of the 20/21 season.

Abu Ogogo had been benched for the second half of the 20/21 season after his performances had dropped.

We were signing them based on their reputations from years before. Their performances had all dipped and they were no longer the player they once were.

The most successful of the outfield over 30 signings was Murphy (the youngest of them) who’d been playing first team football until the final month and a bit of the season. I wouldn’t want to rely on him next season but he can hopefully still contribute.

im pretty sure Murphy will be a big contributer next season should he remain uninjured. and i certainly hope so.

Louis Lomas is on a three-week trekking tour in the Himalaya, Shepherd Murombezdi having a luxury city break in Buenos Aires, and Alfie Rutherford is playing golf in Turkey of all places.

Wouldn't mind a trip with Louis or Shepherd but I'll give listening to Alfies unlucky bounces and 'I should have taken a 7 when I took a 6 iron' a miss.

Update on Lomas: He's on holiday this week. As mentioned before, not imminent as several dodgy Twitter transfer rumour accounts suggest, but things progressing along nicely. He met with the hierarchy at the club and appears all went well. Should hopefully be some movement some time next week. Do not panic guys - no news is not necessarily bad news!

Appears he will be one of the "several players moving on to clubs playing at a higher level", but no announcement about him yet from Brackley. These two players mentioned would have been very good additions to our squad having seen them play for Brackley a number of times. Shame about Ndlovu - a quick and strong player who would do very well with us. Rumours Ndlovu is off to Boreham Wood, and Lowe interesting Oxford.
