Yeah my post was very much tongue in cheek. But good to know that it’s his son I guess. I didn’t know that. Fancy naming your offspring after yourself! It’s the 24 year old son of the former retired Arsenal striker
I would bet that our balance sheet and Martin's remaining resources say otherwise. We have bigger resources than most of NL side apart from Wrexham (hopefully they go up), Notts County & Chesterfield. We should realistically go for Boreham, Dagenham, Halifax, Barnet etc best players & look to pick up young and talented players from club like Brackley FC etc.

Remember this game certainly looks lively.Skip to 1:45 to watch Mooney take the **** in the away game against us.
That’s not true though and you don’t know our strategy. My point is we aren’t gonna achieve what we need to simply by picking up younger players from the lower leagues. I’m not saying go for Sheffield Uniteds best player but I imagine we still have a bigger budget than at least 12 teams in league 2 and a handful in league 1 so we should be able to take some of their players who are in the 23-29 age bracket at times. Our strategy is built that way because it is all we can afford. Not signing 'decent ones with football experience' will give us a better chance of avoiding the dreaded 'cash flow shortages' that afflict us from time to time.
We are relying on someone with a proven track record in our attempts to find suitable players from the lower leagues. We are hoping this will make us at least competitive. In due course we might even be able to sell on one or two of these players.
Being competitive should translate into good gates and keeping our following, This should allow for consolidation of our finances. Selling on players would be a welcome bonus. If, as the plan envisages, we progress and move up the pyramid, we will eventually be able to think about recruiting the sort of players players we now realistically cannot afford to.
The budget is big enough to get us in the promotion mix for sure. I don’t think anyone can say that the budget is unrealistic. A trimmed squad and better recruitment provides scope for real progress. All easy to say but the most critical recruitment was in fact the current management team ( get that wrong and almost any budget might not be enough!)Stan said on the radio be in top 5/6 budgets in the leauge.
I think it's fairly clear what our strategy is, and this ain't it. Plus, again, any of those players you mention being released from League 1 and League 2 teams - if they're any good and not on their way down in terms of age and physical condition then other EFL clubs will be in for them, and we can't compete with that - partially due to finances, partly due to our recent reputation, and partly because not many players in their prime are going to choose to drop out of the EFL unless it's for mega Wrexham or Stockport money. Maybe you'll find the odd surprise like Steve Arnold, but let's face it, it's unlikely. That’s not true though and you don’t know our strategy. When we signed Arnold I remember looking at this stats thinking he hasn't played that much for a goalie in his 30's. Looking at it now perhaps that slight lack of consistency is the only reason we could sign him.I think it's fairly clear what our strategy is, and this ain't it.
