Whilst I agree with the way our three permanent centre-backs are currently looking the business, with Taylor out for the foreseeable future, we're only only centre-back injury away from either:
*Ralph moving back to left-sided centre-back. Now, I actually like the balance the team has with Ralph in this position, but he's significantly outperforming Clifford (who is doubtful through injury himself, of course) at left wing-back, and Lomas has slotted in nicely to that role;
*A rookie in Tommy Davis having to step into the back three. Again, Tommy looked assured when he was given opportunities in pre-season, but he hasn't made his competitive first-team debut with us yet and it would be a big step-up for him; or
*Having to change formation. Again, whilst 4-2-3-1 might suit our current availability, I'd rather continue with the formation we've already got.
So, if Łopata was to become available, I certainly think it would be worthwhile bringing him in, even though he'd have to fight for a starting berth on current form. We know what he's capable of, and as
@JAL says above, it would drive competition in those places. Of course, if the management team identify someone else, then that's fine as well.
