Transfer News and Gossip Summer/Autumn Transfer Targets/Rumours Thread 2022

Great news! If I have a nitpick, it’s this;

“This is a big club that doesn’t deserve to be in this league”

We absolutely do!

Summer transfers used to mean (when we were an EFL team) all activity up to the closing of the transfer window. I believe that is 11pm on 1 September this year.

While the window doesn’t apply in the NL, any transfers after then would struggle to meet the definition of being ‘Summer 2022’, unless they were in the following 3 weeks as has been already mentioned.

So for me, this thread can close with the EFL window and any subsequent (clearly less frequent) business can be handled through standard threads in Chit-Chat pending the opening of the January Transfer Rumours Thread in December through to February.

We’re not likely to do too much transfer business in September, October or November IMO.

Or we prolong the agony and rename the thread 'The Never Ending Story'. Works for me, I like the film.:Smile2:

No transfer window means the transfer rumouring can roll on and on.
Indeed with the prime loan for non league just about to start up this could be the hot thread once again.
However, what (position/role) do we need now?

IRC if a thread receives no posts it will gradually drop from the first page.

No need to close it as someone with dynamic information can resurrect the thread at any time.

PS We are signing a bloke called Harold Kane, so I've been told.

Once upon a time I would have agreed on Lopata, but not any more. He would be a loanee and replace one of our current permanent CBs who have started to look the business in this league, and will only get better as a result.

Time to move on I think.
As much as it pains me to say it, we didn’t look lost without Lopata on Saturday. Lomas and Kensdale are doing a great job.

So interesting that you say that. Obvious candidates took the plaudits at the weekend but for me, Kensdale has come on leaps and bounds. He played that figure head role at the back last season on a few occasions and I was really worried about us going into the season with him in that role. However, over the summer, you can see that he has bulked up and his reading of the game is brilliant. He is really starting to look like a leader at the back and is a real physical presence that is really comfortable on the ball too.

Lomas is the summer signing who is a huge prospect and Hobson has started the season really well. Of course, Lopata would be a huge signing but I don't think it's as black and white as it once was with how well the players are playing. Four games and two goals conceded is a fantastic return.

I still think we need another centre back and adding Lopata can only make us even better, imagine having 4 centre backs all playing at their best pushing to start in the back line? Couldn't think of anything better.

Edit: I'm not saying that 'another centre back' has to be Lopata, just that it's inevitable he would do well for us.

Whilst I agree with the way our three permanent centre-backs are currently looking the business, with Taylor out for the foreseeable future, we're only only centre-back injury away from either:
*Ralph moving back to left-sided centre-back. Now, I actually like the balance the team has with Ralph in this position, but he's significantly outperforming Clifford (who is doubtful through injury himself, of course) at left wing-back, and Lomas has slotted in nicely to that role;
*A rookie in Tommy Davis having to step into the back three. Again, Tommy looked assured when he was given opportunities in pre-season, but he hasn't made his competitive first-team debut with us yet and it would be a big step-up for him; or
*Having to change formation. Again, whilst 4-2-3-1 might suit our current availability, I'd rather continue with the formation we've already got.

So, if Łopata was to become available, I certainly think it would be worthwhile bringing him in, even though he'd have to fight for a starting berth on current form. We know what he's capable of, and as @JAL says above, it would drive competition in those places. Of course, if the management team identify someone else, then that's fine as well.
