Is the supposed striker on Page 1 intentionally double-barrelled? If so, what youngster from a team higher up the pyramid has a double barrelled surname and plays as a striker

Does the season long loan allow for us to cancel it then if he gets injured? I thought some loans don't include any break clause, so wonder if that's the case with this one.
I'm not sure but at least we haven't got him on a 2 year deal which is pretty common with all our other signings this year and then have to pay him when injured

Antwoine Hackford? Made his Sheff Utd debut in the PL as a 16 year old and had a short loan spell at Alfreton last season.
I think Hackford might be our man too. Obviously well thought of at Sheffield and followed by Currie on Twitter, so would’ve worked with him. Would be a very good signing from what I’ve seen.

The 'light' central midfield with Husin, Taylor, Miley, Fonguck, Benton basically vying for 2 spots?

More light as in we don't have a Timlin type character who will put a tackle in. We look lightweight in terms of players who will actually win the ball.

Taylor maybe that man but I think Miley and husin/fonguck will be the preferred partnership.

We have been in overrun in midfield in the games I've seen pre season.

Miley is a proper hard tackling midfielder he will be the Timlin like player

I wonder, for two reasons. Firstly, maybe the relations between the two clubs have soured a little due to the Lopata situation, making another loan from Sheffield United unlikely? Secondly, if the dots and dash do actually represent a real player, that's 6 7 - 6........Hackford is obviously too long. No idea of the player but the 6 letter club could be Fulham or Palace? Pure speculation:Smile:

Hackford may be good but is just 18 with limited experience, i.e. 1 game at a lower level, So if it is him I hope he is fairly exceptional because i have not seen many 18 year old strikers impress on loan at lower league levels.

How is the situation soured ? 3 players come to a non league club they all leave with their stock raised considerably higher … absolutely nothing to do with Southend United other than giving the Southend management team a huge pat on the back …

I agree with others that an additional centre half is still required. To be honest I think we should be looking for a little experience here as well. If/when Ralph gets injured the back line is very young and lacking an obvious leader.

I wonder if another forward is required. If someone exceptional is available on loan then get them in but if not then give Hyde/Wreh a chance to start the season for us.

Other than that the squad looks nearly complete (unless they decide to bring in a number 2 keeper and loan Collin out).

Watched a few vids of Hackford, looks like he has a good burst of pace over the first five yards and likes to run off the shoulder of the defender. Appears quite skinny/lightweight, not enough out there to get a feel for how he is on the ball or gauge whether he has the killer instinct.

a lot of people are pointing out that Hyde has had injuries this past year but sounds like he was doi

the previous ones which had dashes and dots had no relevance in length to who it related too. The first 2 parts are name and the - between seperates the name and the club. Don’t look in to the length of the names

Hew certainly went in hard (and late) at Ipswich and earned himself a very early yellow for it. I hope his timing improves.
You want a few of them. Hit em hard and horrible early doors let them know.

Overall, really not a bad summer in the end?

With probably/hopefully one more before Saturday, thats 9 in - all potentially first team players, many you'd expect with some sell on value for the future.

I'd say thats pretty decent business and a credit to Maher, Still and @StanCollymore
