I'm sure Murkey Mouse can elucidate. BTW if by some miracle Kasper comes we'll need to get a proper pronunciation of Lopata. Having a recent extension built primarily by a builder called Lakasz, the letter L is not pronounced like our L it's got a bit of other letters going on including w.
So they do have the normal letter L which I think is the sound that we know, but they have the additional Ł (which is the one in Łopata) which is pronounced like our W. Their W is pronounced like our V, and they don't use our V unless it's in foreign words. Those Slavic languages....

Indeedy. It’s even worse in Russian with a capital H as a lower case letter sounding like our n, a p sounds like an r, an m sounds like a t, a u sounds like an i, a c sounds like an s, a b sounds like a v…. etc etc :Dizzy:

My last comment on this is I just went on line to see how you pronounce Kacper. God I wish I hadn't. As for his middle name forget it. Mieczysław.

I believe (although I'm happy to be corrected) that the reason for that is it's not really an "L", it's an "Ł", i.e. an "L" with a line through it. We don't have such a letter in English so we use what we've got and end up mis-pronouncing it.

FC Lodz/Łodz being a prime example.

It's pounced W ... L with a line through so correct it would be pronounced ... Wodch.

You have to be very careful with pronunciations as I have learned the hard way.
The introduction to my in laws started badly when at dinner I was asked if I would like anything after dessert.
Instead of asking for a particular polish sweet I liked, my mis-pronouncing led me to ask for a whore covered in chocolate! Grandad thought I was a legend and asked for the same!

Then in a nice fancy restaurant with the family, in front of Grandma, I asked the waiter for what should have been apple pie and ice cream ... b##w j#b and ice cream!! 😲

Be careful, it's never what it seems lol

Perhaps we could start a languages thread and keep this one to transfers?
I don’t think that’s necessary. The possibility of Kacper coming is pretty much the only show in town currently when it comes to potential transfers - and this brief discussion is related to him, and originated from some of his social media posts. We do need to move on, but we don’t need to be too po faced about it.

It's Cyrillic with a different alphabet with different symbols.

Some people on here are so highly-strung.

One of my daughter in laws is Vietnamese. My god what a difficult language. Full of pitfalls some of them are to do with the rise and fall of your intonation. Ah English. The international language.

Back to topic before the subject police have a child tantrum ....

With GSM and JD out, been mentioned about Harry Taylor potentially covering there.

I wonder if tomorrow's friendly will give the coaches any opportunity to bring in a loan or two from the Palace u23's. I'm sure Stan has great links there and could pull something if anyone catches the eye ...

Short term RWB
Striker
reserve keeper

Away in Turkey on holiday at the moment so only check in here every now and again. However had hoped to see another couple of possibles coming in before next week. Fingers crossed we can get another couple over the line but page 1 looking very sparse at the moment
