From Sheffield United’s perspective, the Lopata situation really needs sorting. There must come a point where they need to make a judgement call on whether that relationship is repairable and if not, they need to cut their losses. If Lopata’s made it clear he won’t sign on the terms Sheffield United want him on, maybe it’s time for plan B.

Not saying they should sell to us (although obviously it would be nice). But having an unhappy player sitting around for a year who isn’t in the squad and isn’t on loan would surely affect the amount they’re likely to get from tribunal. Not to mention it’s a year of no senior football at a pretty critical stage in his development.

Even if he didn’t sign a new deal, they’d still surely be better loaning him back to us for the last year of his deal. He’d be at a club he knows well, with a management team who rate him and can get the best out of him and a set of fans who love him. You’d hope we’d be favourably placed to put him in the shop window and increase his tribunal potential if nothing else.
Suspect the first big deadline is the EFL transfer window on Sept 1. Once past that the only place he can go on loan is NL And they can't sell to an EFL till Jan (by which time if I was him and I haven't signed I would wait the extra few months). So if he hasn't signed a new contract then I am sure will want to do something before Sept 1.

Very good point, didn’t know that. Watch this space I guess!

I'm sure Murkey Mouse can elucidate. BTW if by some miracle Kasper comes we'll need to get a proper pronunciation of Lopata. Having a recent extension built primarily by a builder called Lakasz, the letter L is not pronounced like our L it's got a bit of other letters going on including w.

Yeah I think it sounds like "Wopata"
