Strikers are weird to judge based on previous stats. Someone who is a proven goalscorer at one club may not be successful at another club because their skill set is not suited for that club.
Yep, absolutely spot on.

Look at all strikers we have signed who have banged goals in for everyone else yet when they come to Roots Hall they lose their striking ability. Andy Rammell, Gary Hooper, Charlie MacDonald, Barry Conlon... the list is actually quite a bit longer than that but I'm tight for time.

But on a higher level, take Ian Rush. Best example of that point. Ever.

FAN TAZ MO GORRICKLE !

As others have said something of the Akinfenwa about him, cant wait to see him bully a few

Excited for the season ahead, refreshing to see the utter shambles of our club in freefall being stabilized and improved day by day, much spoken about process and structure in place at SUFC in form of action this preseason has been evident and even this forum focuses primarily on topics aside from our chairman and the financial side. Even a start regarding the long awaited training ground / new ground development 😮. The squad is looking very close to complete (a further dominant centre half would be ideal) balanced with a mix of profiles, ages and experiences and should be competitive at this level. We talk about fees and budgets a lot but so much can be accomplished by doing things that cost nothing, and we’ve come on leaps and bounds in our conduct with others and in the environment that is being created. Wrexham and others haven’t succeeded in buying their way out the league and we won’t either, even if we could. Genuinely optimistic and feel the tide is turning so thank you Tom Lawrence, Stan, John, Kev, Benno, Darren and many more. Let’s support the team and staff, it is a long tough season so let’s show patience and trust. Together we’ll get there 🍤💪

Interesting signing. Certainly knows where the back of the net is by last season stats. Having watched him against colchester he didn't lack confidence and has decent link up play for big man. Hopefully he can take his form from last season into the national league, if he does will have very good season.

We were in league one though.
Sure, but Goodship played in the NL this season and managed a solitary goal against a side who finished above 18th en route to his third successive relegation. No doubt some will still claim it was because his 3 different managers this season played him out of position…

Rammell wasn’t really ever prolific.
Hooper had scored 8 goals in the Conference the season before joining us in the Championship; MacDonald had one prolific season in the Conference before joining us in L1; Conlon was coming from youth football. They may have had upside but never looked like sure things when they signed.

On the other hand Big Bad Barry Corr had never really scored for anyone prior to joining us. Tom Hopper had his most prolific spell with us. Gavin Tomlin had his best spell with us, Leon Constantine best year was his single year with us. Coventry and Wolves fans never saw the best of Freddy Eastwood…

Strikers need to be in the right place at the right time but that’s less about being in the six yard box and more about being at a club that is creating a lot of chances and playing to their strengths.

Another one who would have benefited staying with us longer. Bit of a strange move for me.
But we benefitted by getting a player in Neal who suited our needs. Brunt was a luxury player we didn’t need.

Shame though, very talented lad and the Notts County move has set him back. Hopefully he can kick in with Borehamwood, well in every game apart from 2.

Oh I totally agree. My comment was more in reference to his own career. That said, I would have liked to have seen how he would have fitted in during our good run of form and I certainly believe he'd have contributed.

If we could’ve had all 3 on loan and kept them until the end of the season on top of everyone else we brought in we may have nicked a play off spot.

What else is required then?

Personally I’d like to see an aerial threat up front and another defender. On loan if needs be.
Absolutely that! Everywhere else seems sorted and obviously Kev is keen on bringing in a keeper on loan. Assuming Colin is set to go out on loan.
