The fact that we registered interest in having Joe Gubbins back is proof enough for me that they don't see Ralph as a sustainable round peg in a round hole at LCB.
Agree- there again he is a left footed CB. So to my point if they see Ralph as LWB then its because we expect to sign a left footed CB. My question I guess is if we fail to do so is it not likely Ralph will slot in?

Ciaran Clark has just signed for Sheffield United. Further pushing Kacper down the pecking order

He’s the best LCB we have and also the best LWB at the club. So I assume it’s more so that we’d rather have another LCB option as we don’t have one whereas, we already have Clifford for depth at LWB.

Unfortunately, Sheffield United could sign 400 centre backs this Summer, it won’t make a difference to whether we sign Lopata or not.

Both Sheffield United and Lopata are at loggerheads. Sheffield United won’t loan him out until he signs a new deal, and Lopata doesn’t want to be at Sheffield United so won’t sign a deal. One of them needs to back down, and neither look like doing so.

Lopata has been putting 1 week down, 51 to go in his Instagram stories, almost counting down until he is out of contract and can leave.

Is there any particular reason as to why Kacper is so desperate to leave what seems like a decent club from the outside? Has his head been turned by someone else?

I thought this as well.

Frustrates me beyond no end the way these bigger clubs hoard talent. If you cannot guarantee a young player progression, your club should not give them a contract IMO.

Case and point with many of our recent young prospects at Southend, we signed them on pro contracts and they were never really going to make it here especially due to the poor environment we've had for years.

Now a lot of these lads are finding their feet again when they could have done that a while ago. I like how selective we've been this year with our pro offers, not to mention just how much we involve the new young pros.

The player loses out because they get limited/no game time, while the club loses out paying a wage to hold players hostage and hope they cash in on a transfer fee (which they often don't, and tribunals don't award big fees). It feels so wrong.

Feel sorry for Kacper, a talented and driven player is being held back here really.

Lopata made it quite clear to a few at Southend, that he absolutely loved it at Southend. He was genuinely gutted to go back to Sheffield, a club he does not love, and doesn't fit in so well with the personalities there. I think happiness is more important than money to him. So I wouldn't be surprised to see him drop down a league or two to get that.
#FreeLopata get it trending on Twitter 😂

Not in the classic sense, and it may have nothing to do with us and any desire to return (obviously I’d love it if he did want to come back!).

However I think it’s true to say he was enjoying his football last season with us and that got cut short, quite possibly against his will. He spent the rest of the year getting splinters in his bum. It’s possible that he could have been led to believe he would be trusted if called upon, but that didnt materialise. He may just be very aggrieved at how things were handled by Sheffield United.

Obviously this is all speculation, but from the outside looking in I can see the potential for some unhappiness.

The new contract offer may also be disappointing in his eyes depending on what it has to say about game time, compensation to the blades to release/transfer him and/or being too many years commitment (protecting the blades asset possibly at the expense of his career, in Kacper’s eyes).

Situations like this often make players fall out of love with football, as they are being restricted to what they would like to do and where they would like to go in aid of themselves and benefit their careers.

I wouldn't be surprised if dropping down some leagues were to happen once he is allowed to go, whether that's to ourselves or someone else (god forbid, he belongs here 😉)

This is exactly how these hoarder clubs see their younger prospects. A passive transfer fee income if nothing else.

So what if the player doesn't come good or break through to first team I suppose! A sad waste of a season coming up for Kacper unless we can jailbreak him after finding Ron's warchest (or maybe a big sponsor?)

Sad thing is, even if pigs can fly and we bought Kacper, it would just encourage this hostage-holding behaviour further.

Obviously it would be great if the big Pole returns. but I have to say I am fairly happy with our defence as it is. I am not saying Kacper wouldnt improve it, as of course he would, but I have high hopes for Lomas as he was in a brick wall defence last season, and am happy with Kensdale and Hobson as well.
As many have alluded to, I feel we need 1 more before the season starts and that is a striker.

Kasper's a bright lad but anyway he has an agent. Sadly its well known that Prem and Champ clubs routinely extending contracts of players who they see little or no chance of being involved in the first team, to do no more than control their futures and ensure fees/sell-ons. Kasper has no doubt seen enough to want to be free to make that decision for himself even if a year down the road.

Be amazed if Sheff weren't putting some feelers out to understand what they can get for him now. Otherwise they have the choice of giving in and loaning him out (getting no benefit and developing him for someone else) or keeping him in the u23s and watching his value go down. Doesn't make sense. EXCEPT if Sheff want to make an example for others (which is pretty sad all round and won't help them keep and attack others). So something will give...

The first real deadline is 1st Sept when the EFL window closes...

It seems Elvis choosing not to sign with us last season was much less well received on here than Kacper's stance with Sheffield United!
