I don't think talk is entirely wide of the mark. No smoke without fire and all that. We shall see. Would be nice if we can pull off one more statement signing.
that would be good and looking at the quality of Mooney (in particular), Miley and Taylor i feel confident that they will find one or two more of that quality. Obvs didn't see Gus are Lomas last night but understand they did well Saturday.

What impressed me the most last night was the quality of the youngsters on show. They all looked very comfortable on the ball, Benton especially and if you didn't know they were young pros then you would think they had been playing for a number of years. Not one of them looked out of place and clearly we have some decent youngsters at the club

I've known Jon Benton since he was 10 and he always looked like he could be a good player. A smaller squad next season and the improved style and environment will be great for the likes of him, Coker, Arrowsmith, Davis, etc. to progress.

yes and to be fair i picked Benton out in particular as first half he really impressed. however the likes of Coker, Davies, Arrowsmith, Reeve also did well and the transition between the first half 11 and second half 11 which included more youngsters seemed seamless. meaning that what ever the style of play and set up Maher and co want to play these youngsters could easily play a part. Obvs Canvey werent great opposition but sometimes you have to look at the wider picture

Ah yes, forgot you were the Oracle.

My take away from this is that the people at Sheff Utd don't know much about the levels below them. I'm disappointed to see HN go to Barrow. Much of L2 is barely, if any, step up from much of the VNL. If they want to see Neal progress this season then he really needed L1 football.
I see your point and whilst I agree, how many League One clubs would be interested in Neal? And even those that are how many are going to play him regularly?

He will be a starter at Barrow that is for certain and although not much of a step up it’s still a step up.

Hopefully he does really well in the first half, they get interest from clubs higher and he goes out on a loan at a higher club for the second half. Or even better he ends up playing for Sheff U.

I'd have thought at least the club's promoted from L2 last season - Port Vale, Forest Green, Exeter or Brizzle R. Plus maybe your Cambridges or Cheltenhams or Burtons. That was the sort of club I thought they'd be looking to get him in at.

Look at how well Hutchinson’s loan to FGR worked out.

The lad has had a solid run out in the national league with us. League Two with Barrow is a wise move IMO.

Unfortunately it's the normal process when it comes to loans...... he proven his worth in non league and now he ready for higher level, I agree there isn't much difference interms standard of football in the National league and league 2 but same time he still be testing himself against better players and some decent clubs who in Bradford case can attract 15k week.

Shame we miss out on prospects like Tobias here or T as he is known to his friends of which my son is one.

How does our local scouting not pick up on a player like this who went to school in Burnham, played for Burnham Ramblers, and Bowers before signing his first contract at Luton - do we even have a local scouting network?

I think your personal connection to him is clouding your judgment here, this isn't the kind of player we'd be sending our scouts out to watch. We're trying to assemble a team of players that are ready to hit the ground running in a month because they've been standouts at clubs either in this tier or the one below, a bench player for a 7th tier side doesn't fit into that criteria.

It's not like Luton have signed him for their first team and he's some unearthed gem ready to be their star man next season, they've signed him for their academy. He may turn out to be a great signing for them in the long term but signings like these are long term gambles, and as a championship side Luton can afford to make more of them than us.

I'm sure we will have been very well aware of him as we picked up Charlie Sayers from Bowers and Pitsea in very similar circumstances. May be that we were not interested as we feel we have better academy prospects in the same position, or the player might simply prefer the idea of Luton.

I actually thought Miley was brilliant last night
I only have positive praise towards Miley as well, just thought for someone quite young coming into what is becoming an ever improving side, Coker did not go into hiding and played very much on the front foot. A lot of good stuff came through him.
