Played 16 times for Wycombe when they won promotion to the Championship, doesn’t sound like a 34 year old cart horse on their way out
Only 10 of which were starts in the league, the last 2 of which were a 4-0 loss (Phillips was subbed off after 29 minutes because they were already 3-0 down) and another 4-0 loss, although Phillips wasn't on the pitch for most of that as he got a red card after 21 minutes. Wycombe had 10 matches after that sending off and he didn't play a single minute in any of them.

Maybe he's improved (Wycombe gave him a one year deal to play in the development side so they might have seen some potential in him) but I don't think he had much to do with them going up.

Edit: Discussion about him may be redundant though, I'm not sure where you read he was released, from what I can see he's got another year on his contract.

For the first time in a long while we seem to be prioritising an ability to play within the style that we want to play, rather than general reputation. It's clear that we want our central defenders to play out from the back and even bring the ball out from the back, with perhaps someone like Harry Taylor slotting in to replace where needed. Versatility is key to this, as is fitness and being comfortable on the ball.

It looks like we will be looking for players who technically should probably be above this level, but still have weaknesses in their game that mean they are not playing higher. That may be that they've not been used effectively in their previous club, or they need a bit of work that we are confident of being able to coach into them.

So when it comes to someone like, for example the chap Giles Phillips, it won't necessarily matter to the management team that he didn't fit in at Aldershot, if he has the attributes that our coaching staff value.

All very progressive and unlike Southend United. I like it a lot.

Not sure if anyone has mentioned already or if there is already an answer on here but I seem to recall that when the stadium construction was started there was a release of funds that would also benefit the team. Have I got this wrong? If not anyone here got any info?

In fairness, we are operating on a £1.4m yearly season budget, which is top 5 in this league. Don't really see the need to go too far beyond that. We don't want to fall into old habits/mistakes.

Top 5, I wouldn't say so. I was dubious about RM's claim last season but even if it were true then, I can almost guarantee it's not now. Maybe top 10.

The 'divided opinion' debate will always rage.
Probably a majority on here would be negative towards Mohsni and Wordsworth , and whilst I do understand the negatives in terms of team output , to me they were the most exciting and pro active midfielders I've watched for us in recent years.
Not sure if anyone has betean either 'midfield' goal tally recently ( and that's with Mohsni playing a large percentage of games at the back ) - his home hat trick v Barnet and away performance at Northampton will live long.
For me, with over 55 years watching SUFC, these two are my least favourite ever players.

I can cast iron assure you that it is most certainly around there. Ask Tom Lawrence if you ever we get the opportunity again via zoom/some form of conference.

Heck, it's even simpler than that. It's been public knowledge for a while we carry and operate on that budget. Believe me, 90% of clubs in this division are not touching £1.4m in budgets.

Barrow got out of this league deploying £650,000. Sutton similar as well.

I struggle to believe it. Wrexham and Chesterfield instantly make up the 90% claim.

Solihull and Dagenham both allegedly paying far more than us too. Dagenham almost proven last week.

I believe you that ours is £1.4m but I do not believe at all that only 1 or 2 clubs are beating that.

Daggers have a £1.6m budget this season I believe.

I would say Wrexham, Chesterfield, Notts, Daggers all certainly have a bigger budget than us. So we will be around 5th at best.

🤣🤣 Seriously, trust me Solihull absolutely no where near a £1.4m budget.

They operate on just below £1m, Their manager Neal Ardley has said this publicly.

It's not a big secret. Its easy to find out, just skim through clubs accounts. Most owners/Directors of football release it openly.
