People are only saying there is no experience because:

1. They do not know the players with have signed - therefore assuming there is no experience.

2. Basing it off their age - they are too used to Brown's 30+ year old signings that are classed as 'experienced', therefore someone younger obviously can't be

3. We've made signings from lower leagues.
That's a fair point but can I caveat it somewhat by asking the question of how many have experience of success, especially at this level? How many have been there, done that when it comes to grinding out a 1-0 win away to someone like Halifax on a bitter Tuesday night in a promotion race?

Not discrediting our signings, because I like them, but experience can be divided into many components not just games played.

Wasn’t that the type of player the PB signed, experienced, games under their belts and a few promotions. We soon discovered a mix of both is key. Younger squad, mobility, legs in midfield especially and something to prove

That’s what we are building now. Time will tell but the current squad is far more exciting and suited to this league than this time last season

I agree. Don't want 32+ year olds who won something a decade ago and have been dining off it ever since, but a few that have enjoyed success at this level in the past few years would be desirable. Miley and Taylor may be good players but don't fit that bill, even our signings from lower down didn't really achieve too much either. We need a proper marquee signing

What difference it makes being at this level exactly as opposed to one division higher or lower?

Particularly as all but 2 of the squad already have experience in this division.

Has the player been part of a promotion squad at some stage in their career?

GK
Steve Arnold - yes
RB
Jason Demetriou - yes
Gus Scott-Morriss - yes
LB
Nathan Ralph - yes
Tom Clifford - no
CB
Shaun Hobson - yes
Louis Lomas - was part of the Brackley side who finished 2nd last season

Etc etc

I get your point however look at everyone’s comments about players taking a big step up from the lower leagues to this and quite a few of our new starting 11 will have done this now.

Having experience doesn’t mean they need to be over 30 but there should be a core of players 25-28 with decent experience at this level. How many games realistically is Murphy going to play for example. Attacking wise we are currently severely lacking decent experience.

Hopefully the players making the step up from part-time to full-time won’t take too long to adapt. I noticed on the second Manager’s Day video when the losing teams did shuttle runs at the end that it was Gus Scott-Morriss who trailed in at the back of the pack. It’s a big step up for him, but he’s a young guy and hopefully will be up to speed soon.

Halifax is on a Tuesday but it’s in August….If I go i will be wearing shorts😎

A point would be a great result because Halifax are a very decent team who can defend much better than Southend. What we need is players and fans who don’t sneer down at our clubs because we are in no position to do so and won’t win anything if we do..

Why do we need a marquee signing?

I’d argue Dan Mooney is a marquee, or a statement signing. Taking a Club’s best player, a player that scored and assisted goals, and was voted young player of the season at this level. We also beat off other clubs for his signature, as we did with our other signings too.

If we bring in the player I’m expecting that we do, again we’d have beaten off other Clubs. If we can get that forward over the line, he has other clubs after him too.

No sneering, Halifax was just a hypothetical scenario, a draw there would be perfectly acceptable.

What I'm talking about is us needing characters resilient enough to travel 200 miles midweek and help grind out priceless wins. Too many over the years haven't had the mental strength to do so.

In someone like Harry Taylor we have a player who will know the National League inside out and nothing it throws up should faze him. That's exactly what I'm talking about.

I think we need someone capable of producing a piece of magic from nowhere to decide a game that is otherwise grinding to a deadlock. There will be times this season when we're goalless at someone like Aldershot simply unable to pick the lock.

I'm not sure who that player is for us. Mooney a great signing I agree, but who is our wildcard? Our out of the ordinary hero? I just see a lot of effective if unspectacular quality, but not much...maverick, take a game by the scruff of the neck individual class.

Just my opinion of course and not even intended to be negative, simply wondering who that man is in our squad if indeed there is one?

I think we could get a marquee easily enough via Amazon, but what would we do with it? How would it help?

We put it up in the car park and have a temporary tap tent with beers from Leigh and St Georges Brewery at £4 a pint for 2 hours before kick off and however long after until kegs empty.?
#sillyanswer?
I know this was just a marquee gag but it blows my mind that the club don’t do stuff like this. Even in the National League we’re regularly getting 5k crowds. Of which maybe 2-3k might fancy a beer or some food. But refreshment offerings inside the ground are awful and have been for years. I can only speak for myself but personally that sends me elsewhere to get the same things but a better experience. I can get better food from the M&S garage and better beer from any of the local pubs.

I’ve never been to Dulwich Hamlet but have heard that they have a decent craft beer offering. Why can’t we make a name for ourselves in an area like this and then you’ll not only get back the refreshment trade from your regular punters but like with DH you’ll attract the casual fan who just fancies a decent beer and a chat with a mate.

I'm lost. We are signing a tent in order to show other clubs that we mean business?

They had one at Yeovil a few years ago I recall - it was busy. Sounds good/why not?

Well done to the commercial department for taking this up.

Not having a dig at you but what we really need is better performances at RH….. We became a soft touch with teams turning up confident they could win.

It was poor home form that got us into the NL and it will be the the key to getting us back to the EFL
