Blimey, wasnt too long ago they were treating him like the next messiah, more so after they beat us at Sincil Bank. Maybe they shouldve stuck with Chris Sutton, like I say.

If they'd stuck with Chris Sutton they would definitely have avoided Conference football. Lincoln City would've had to have gone into administration if he'd been around much longer, and would have been relegated straight down into the Evo-Stik League (Northern Premier League in old money).

The Conference have fairly strict rules about clubs who can't or don't bother to make ends meet. Rightly so, too.

Sad news for Tilly & Brush, but lets face it they didn't do a very good job there. They gave us some great times at RH, and didn't deserve the treatment they received at the end. Good luck to them both, feel this could well spell the end of their double act, as they'll be a tough sell now. Both could easily start again as manager at a lower level or maybe as an assistant at a football league side (think this could really benefit Tilly as a manager now).

Very sad news. I was at the Lincoln game when they beat us and they really shouldn't have gone down after that result. I hope he and Brush find another job in football but after 3 relegations he may struggle.

Football's a funny old game - Peter Reid don't seem to do too bad ......

Seems football management is the only place where you employ someone else's cast off, who they didn't think was good enough, in the eternal hope that they will come good for you.

Would never gloat over any person losing their job, and certainly not Tilly who was a good servant to this club as both player and manager, wish the pair of them the best for the future.

He did amazing there when he joined, got them out of the bottom 3 then pushed towards playoffs, then seemed to collapse. Funnily enough even when we were doing well we always collapsed at the end of the season too :)

Shame it hasnt worked out there but thats not a yardstick with which to measure him. He may go to a more stable club and do better, to take on a club like Lincoln who were on a downward spiral would be hard for any manager.

I think the difference between the side Tilly inherited here and the side he got at Lincoln was possibly the difference.

When you think of the side Tilly took over he had the likes of Darryl, Gower and Leon Court who went on to be serious players in the game and even Juppy, Che, Dudfield who were all good players at that level.

Having seen Lincoln at Roots Hall with an attack that consisted of Drewe and Delroy Facey it was always going to be a struggle.

I also think that Freddy at the time was an amazing signing and basically he made the difference between an average side and an amazing side. I wonder how much sucess Tilly would have had if he hadnt have got Freddy.

I think he could be a really good non-league manager if he gets a club on a decent footing. I hope he can rebuild his career that way. Always a Southend legend.

Sad news IMO, their reputations may not recover from this. Can't help but feel Tilly jumped into that job too soon following the tough couple of final years at Southend.

For me he dragged our club up by its boot straps, brought good times, good crowds, exciting football and was loyal to the end; he'll never be anything but a class act in my eyes. Hope he gets another chance...
nicely summed up

Yeah no surprise this was coming, only matter of time considering their results.

Just to think this could have been us, i don't mean with tilly at the helm but with our money troubles just proves staying in the league last year was a huge success for us otherwise we could have been a struggling conference side.

Gutted for him. He and Brushy are a great duo who have had a run of bad fortune; hope that they can turn it round sooner rather than later.

And as others have said, Tilly & Brush will forever be SUFC legends.

:Worthy:

Yes this is a really sad outcome - as the person who started the 'Tilson's new Lincoln' thread after seeing them in a pre-season friendly at Ilkeston, I am surprised at how badly it has gone. Of course the two clubs are three divisions apart but Ilkeston are top of the Evostik north south 1 (yes it really is that stupid now!) and under Kevin Wilson are never an easy pushover. That day Lincoln played very slick passing football and completely dominated. I do hope he gets back into a club quickly and shows this was a blip - he still deserves success in my book!

I think you have hit the nail on the head there. Tilly has the ability to get the best out of a team of good (at their level) players who have confidence, commitment and/or are looking to improve. It was fairly evident that when his Southend players' heads dropped in the Championship and when the team again lost confidence (and the means to pay their bills) in League 1, he failed to lift his team and inspire them, and the downward spiral got out of control. He inherited a disjointed and unhappy squad when he joined Lincoln, had to lose his best players (e.g. Ashley Grimes) when they went down to the Conference and has not managed to instil any confidence or consistency into the bunch of free transfer low-level journeymen that he was allowed to sign this season. In both last season and this at Lincoln, that same rapid downward spiral that we saw at Southend has been evident.

Motivating and bonding lesser players is a skill he is going to have to develop if he is to have a long-term future in management in the lower echelons of football.

Some interesting rumours doing the rounds up here in Lincoln regarding tilly's time at the club. Let's just say he is alledged to have spent more and more of his time down in Essex prior to his departure as imps' boss.
