What was Steve Tilson's great achievement at Southend United?

Why is that then? You could say he (Clark) spent lots at Huddersfield, had one of the most sought after strikers and still did not manage to improve on their play-off position each season.

How will he manage at Gillingham with a much smaller budget and (I suspect) little to spend ....... whilst Tilson and (to some extent) Ince have had more experience of making a silk purse from a sow's ear .........

Youve answered your own question, Clarke is used to a bigger club with better finances.

He did play a massive part in their promotion this year, even if it was with a good budget.

The benefit Tilson has over the other two is that he hasn't lost time during the summer. He never used to sign anyone until August anyway...!

All the best to Tilson for the job ............ but I do not want to find that there are a number of old Southend players like Sawyer lining up against us for Gillingham ........ it's bad enough with Prince Harry and Bristol Rovers, Ravell and Rotherham etcetera ........

He never played him while he was here - can't see that changing anywhere else!:winking:

Yeah - A Tilly old boys XI, with Harry Crawford and Matt Paterson up front will strike fear into League 2 defences everywhere!

Good luck to him I really hope he gets it, he deserves another crack at the footy league and a chance to prove RM wrong. I'll bet Tilly to the Gills and Freddy his first signing along with Adam Barrett

Good luck to Tilly, really hopes he gets it. Cant thank him enough for some of the most enjoyable moments supporting SUFC

Tlly could sign and put out a team such as ..........

Collis/Mildenhall/Morris
RB, Richards, Barrett, LB
JJ, Easton, Sawyer, Moussa
Paterson, Asante

A few gaps but there must be players out there ......... Nathan Jones is surely too old .......

Lincoln were broke and in the bottom two when he took over and had no money to improve the side.
He did a good job of lifting them out of it then fell apart.

I thought a significant problem was that the players Tilly inherited were on high and (relatively) long contracts that left him with very little room to manoeuvre (tricky word to spell) .......... but then again it was one loan signing that was banging in the goals (who was he and where has he disappeared to?) including one against us I remember ..........

Ashley Grimes, now at Rochdale.

sounds like a load of excuses!

If you take over a team mid season that is bottom of the leage and you get relegated you can use that as an excuse.

If you are managing a club where you are under transfer embargo most of the time and players arent paid for months at a time you can use that as an excuse too.

I thought Tilson could have kept us in League one with the team he had after Christmas, but that doesnt mean the finances and the state the club was in wasnt the major factor in us being relegated.

I have never brought into the notion that paying the players late affected their game !

Morale and motivation is key in any sport and both were destroyed by not being paid and having to play in a team of 6 players and a revolving door of loanees.

Very naive if you dont think it affected us on the pitch TB!
