I just hope the building starts soon. As I said previously I'm just bored with it. I noticed that in a previous life the Sainsbury's planning guy on the application did planning for a Hotel chain. Come on man, use your expertise and get that fourth side sorted.

Why would this happen? He's a developer... he's not about to build something to house one tenant that can't afford to pay rent.

Sainsburys I'm sure (as well as other individuals and companies) are interested parties in the development and will want the success of the retail park. So will Ron.

Bloody hell guys, this is actually good news... we're still alive yet then mood almost seems to be one of disappointment! So many view this through the assumption that Ron is a crook and is shafting the club. He may be - but he also may not be. Take away that assumption and view the whole picture. It was Alan Alda who said “Begin challenging your own assumptions. Your assumptions are your windows on the world. Scrub them off every once in awhile, or the light won't come in.”

Maybe he is making enough out of the sale of Roots hall and the development of it without having to be concerned with building the three sided stadium, retail park and the fourth side and all without having to ever give a penny to the council.

*disclaimer - this is all just pure idle speculation and more just a thought.

Of course it is good news the building may actually start. but RH is the diamond here not the FF development. I heard figures quoted about some time ago from reliable sources that RH was worth between 30-40 mill as a project before the supermarket was built and all the houses ( some 270 wasn't it?)

Now what would you rather do if you had managed to get away with building a 3 sided stadium and still had a nice lump sum out of the sale of RH. Put it into a risky retail development that is not needed or keep it in your back pocket and live off the interest?

It's been a while since I looked, but were some of the east backing houses in Shakespeare Drive part of plans? I'm sure I remember talk about RM buying properties up along there.

Dunno about that, Jamie's not linked with them any more, but, isn't David Beckham involved, certainly with their Sport for Kids campaign?

But, Jamie is a local lad with loadsa dough, he could be to us what Delia is to Norwich, he may even but onions in our burgers!

Ok,but how much has it cost him to keep the club afloat so far? I reckon he'll kiss goodbye to at least £10-15m from that in to pay back people he's borrowed from.

And money doesn't work for you unless you do something with it. Firstly, it's not his personal money, it will belong to a company or maybe even a few companies. HM Revenue & Customs don't like large amounts of cash sitting in company accounts, they like something done with it. Individuals just can't go and take it out. He has an absolutely golden opportunity to make tons of money for his companies via rental income for a long time to come. There is also the point that that sum of money won't keep us afloat for very long if he has to use it to subsidise the club. By building the retail development he has the best of both worlds... an income producing development PLUS something that can later be sold. The other way he'll have a complete white elephant that will be worthless.

Makes no sense.

There are two very slim chances of the retail side being built.1 He sells the project with planning permission to a much larger property company who want to take it on and have the finance to do so or 2: He will try to prove it has decent yields by getting a large store to agree to take on the main unit and therefore attract others to it, he may then just get some finance company to back it.

As far as the 4th side of the stadium in concerned it would take forever to make any money as the infrastructure and costs to erect such a building with all the ad on's is colossal. They would need 10.000 people buying season ticket debentures for 40 years in advance to cover such costs IMO.

I am willing to bet you £50 now we will not see a 4th side to the stadium built. RM might make some final gesture as far as it is concerned and hand the 3 sided parts back to the fans as a goodwill gesture before he disappears into the sunset.

How about Tesco? Sainsbury would love that

I'll match your £50, Mr. Pessimist, but charity bet - A Fourth side started within 4 years of the first game played at Fossetts, or I'll pay £50 to Little Havens. If Martin comes through, you pay the same to Little Havens.

Deal?

Deal sir

Cricko, I see your argument, and you may well be right. One question on the retail element though is why would RM have included it in the scheme originally unless he wanted it built? Sell roots hall for £40m and build a replacement elsewhere for say £20m would have been a feasible project. He must see long term profit in the retail?
