I'm pretty sure you can't provide info on meetings until after it. Phones are meant to be off. At least that's what's happened to me when I went to meetings as a journo.

Yeah why I said to be fair John can't. But just assumed proceedings were already underway when he was in contact to say it had started. over an hour now.

Do you know what The Royals problem is? Have they had planning turned down?

The royals shopping centre object to the building of retail outlets as they feel this will have a negative impact on their turnover, as they feel that shoppers are less likely to shop in their shopping center, and are liekely to make purchases at fossets farm.

What a load of sh*t !! The Royals has been a dump for years.

Don't know all the ins and outs but if the retail park at FF were to go ahead ( and I'm sure it won't) they were concerned the supposed £3.5m sweetener to compensate wasn't enough in their eyes. In my view if he couldn't cough up the previous offer of just over £2m why can he now suddenly offer to pay £3.5m? I believe he hasn't got that money personally and my opinion is and I say this without any cause of unrest towards the Club but the Council are really going to have to watch him like a hawk as they stand to eventually get nothing out of this after all if they pass it.

Didn't the council actual defer the decision when they were offered £2.25m? The original offer several years ago was £6m.

Frthermore I believe those at the top in the Royals know full well they'll be screwed for no reason as the Council could pass these plans and in time the retail park won't be forthcoming and the £3.5m from Ron personally just isn't there. And I think The Royals guys can see through it. Once again this is not a slight on the Club but of one man who hasen't even got his fellow directors completely on side. two CEO's shafted already.

I wonder if Waitrose and the others had to compensate the High Street in the same way.

This ...

This "FF will ruin the High Street" is an absolute joke ............., as ive said on numerous other threads, the High Street has been declining for years and for the council to hold Southend responsible for this, in the future, is a disgrace !!

The GL Hearn report openly details that the town centre is in decline, and has been for many years. It advises that the ratio of unoccupied retail outlets in the Town Center is above national average, and this appears to be a constent trend for Southend.

The report advises that it recognised that the building of a retail development at fossests farm would indeed remove footfall and spend from the high street. This is the reason that the club/sainsburys are offering a payment as a form of compensation for this.

My oppinion is that the council need to look at their rental structure, parking policy and overall investment in the retail element of the high street, as its seems to be neglected.

With respect to them I sometimes wonder if the Council are a shade naive not only on this but on other mattters. I see in the Echo today a few councillors are facing fraud allegations. Interesting to see the decision.

Exactly, didnt hear all this crap when the airport retail park popped up & Tesco & Waitrose built whacking great stores!!

I always find it helpful to get a fresh perspective on subjects, especially one as convoluted and important as this one. It is really nice of colonel saunders to take the time to sign up to Shrimperzone and give us the benefit of his insight, especially as he seems to have such a good knowledge of the opinions of the Royals owners, though his consistently negative expectations of the outcome of FF are a little depressing.

there lays the conundrum. The retail park Ron will say will eventually happen won't happen in my view. I doubt the stadium will be built even if plans are passed but if it goes ahead we'll be left with a long term joke of a 3-sided ground.
