What's your starting 11 and result prediction for Saturday?

Looking forward to this one now- a few late adjustments as Her Ladyship has decided to cancel her shopping trip and demanded a ticket as well.. gate looks like 8500 fish, be great if we can get to 9k+. Atmosphere, Sol, Ipswich the makings of a cracking game.

Demi played left-midfield for most of his time at Orient so ‘round peg’ is justifiable. It’s more difficult to pin down Hutch’s position, though. Right side of a midfield three appears to be his favoured position at the moment.

Subject to any returning injured players the 11 gets close to picking itself and the other big unknown (unless others know) is whether Sol has any strong views on favoured formations. I get impression from interview he wants people doing the job they know and doubt he’ll play more out of position than he has to.

If a 442 man I reckon he’ll go:

Ox
Elvis Shaughnessy Kiernan Ralph
Demi Dieng Milligan Hutchinson
Cox Hopper

If 532

Ox
Shaughnessy Milligan Kiernan
Elvis Cox Dieng Hutchinson Ralph
Hopper Humphrys

I’d personally go for the 532 based on personnel

Demi is still a right footed right back playing left midfield!!! That’s square in round enough for me!!

Hutchinson came to the club as a second striker / attacking CM....he did an interview saying he also played left wing for BHA as a scholar...and we can’t work out why his defending is suspect at right midfield in league 1 ??

To clarify:

Injured:
Hyam
Mantom
Ridgewell (not fit)
Barratt
Ndukwu

Suspended:
Macca
Hamilton
Lennon

Therefore my team:

Oxley
Elvis Shaugnessy Kiernan Ralph
Hutch Milligan Dieng Goodship
Hopper Cox/Humphrys (whoever is fitter)

I agree with this side, though I would be tempted to leave Milligan at the back, and put Keirnan in midfield

Not sure who the 'we' is here @Tombstone Blues . Isaac played most of the Donny game at left mid and he did struggle to defend, but there again so did most of the other players.

Tbf to Hutchinson he was a natural wide- particularly with defensive duties- but his rate of improvement has been very good. His fitness is good and I think with a bit more guidance RM/LM is for now where he should be. CM he does some good things but is no robust enough with and without the ball, and loses possession way too easily.

Bear in mind with McL out, Lennon suspended (5 yellows) Ralph is our only senior left footed player. So Hutch or Demi will probably have to play out there.

Isaac played right mid v Donnie.....he was then one of the three chasing their tails once Macca was sent off...

‘We’ is simply fans who have rightly questioned his defending....my point was he came to the club as a second striker so it’s no surprise he’s found that part difficult playing right mid.

The original point was about sq pegs in sq holes and where his ‘position’ is....and that he (Along with most young players when they start out) has actually been playing ‘out of position’ for almost all his first team games

I don’t think there’s any other option other than to go with 3-5-2

As much as I rate Bishop, any young goalkeeper taking a hiding like that needs to just be left out the spotlight to regroup so Oxley back in goal for me.

Three centre backs almost pick themselves but I’m going with Milligan in there centrally with Shaughnessy and Lennon either side which gives me Kiernan in centre midfield.

Elvis and Ralph as out only wide players....although I’d have been tempted to play this formation with Macca as the wing back had he been available.

As said Kiernan will sit deeper in CM behind Dieng and Hutchinson.

I actually think Cox has been a million times better last game or two but I think he’s carry injuries and a week off may not do him any harm so I’m going to start with Hopper and Humphrys up front.

So on paper it looks like :-

EDITED DUE TO LENNON SUSPENDED

Oxley.

Shaughnessy. Milligan. KIERNAN.

Elvis. HUTCHINSON. DIENG. Ralph.

COX.
Hopper. Humphrys.

Bench :-

Bishop
Acquah
Goodship
Demetriou
Taylor
Rush
Egbri

This please, no square pegs in round holes and would get the best out of what we have ie Ralph and Elvis wing backs and Cox behind front 2

Nope, no to wing backs - Elvis gets horrible exposed when he plays in this position. Sol wants to keep it simple, the best way to do that is to go 4-4-2. Goodship and Hutchinson can play out wide.

I agree- except Goodship an out and out striker really- hence no fault of his that his defensive game at LM is nowhere to the standard of this offensive game in that role. And Nathan needs as much protection as possible- anyway Sol will make the call and knows far better than I..

I always laugh when I hear this “keep it simple” thing related to 442.....

It’s only most fans that think it’s more simple than any other formation because it’s what we all know as ‘basic’.

The truth is at this level it’s has as many complexities as any other formation and as will all of them at any one time in any game you are in and out of all sorts of formations anyway.

To go 352 we would need Lennon I think- and he is suspended. Shaunessy/Milligan/Kiernan there would leave us exposed defensively down that flank. Sol I think very much sets his teams up 422 so dont see that changing- certainly not for tomorrow
