I've actually benched Dackers, Wes, Jack Bridge and Gussy. So Harry and Waldron to start up front. Demi to replace Gussy for a while, Morton in for Wes, Ralph replacing Jack Bridge and Crowther fitting into the defence. Not too radical I don't think. Gulp!

I'm not looking to dump our fast passing, high press game, but I am looking for a bit more bite across the whole team. We need more teeth to back up the front two.

I think Maidenhead found him unplayable. Double nutmeg and a cool finish - goal D I think it is

One could comment about the level of opposition, but that would be churlish.
That said, how many times has he tried that curling shot this season?
Sorry, to be pedantic: but ONE nutmeg. The ball ran through the legs of the second hapless defender.
For the sake of argument, let's agree he had one game when he was unplayable.
The original poster suggested it was one week unplayable, the next week not.
Err....

We've only got two teeth? No wonder we lack bite!

Don’t get the Wes and Bridge debates at all….Without looking at the table without the 10 point deduction we would be in/ very near the play off places having played most of the top sides twice.. They both give 100% and both show good quality where new signings are presently unproven.. If we have a bad Feb then that is the time to make changes surely ..

THERE will be a new addition to our Southend United coverage this weekend.

From 7pm after Saturday’s clash with Gateshead at Roots Hall, the Echo’s Blues reporter Chris Phillips will be speaking to fans online about the game. Chris has teamed up with the Blue Room for the coverage and is looking forward to talking with supporters.

He said: “We’re always looking at ways to improve the coverage, and I think this should definitely do that.” We do a lot with words around matches, normally around 200 stories a month in fact, but this is something different and interactive so it will be great. “Fans can tune in to listen and also have their say on what we’re talking about.”

“It’s all going to be centred around the match that’s just finished, and we’ll be looking at getting different guests on.“Passions will still be high so soon after the final whistle, and as a Blues fan myself I always enjoy hearing what other Southend supporters have to say.”

“A big thanks goes to the Blue Room as well for their expertise with making this happen.”
Links to the show will be posted on social media and the Echo website before getting underway.

Don’t get me wrong,Jack Bridge is a fantastic,match-winning attacker, winger, but he is not great defensively. Also he becomes more and more effective as the match goes on.
For a few games,I’d try not bringing him on till after ht—the Fonguck/Ralph (wing-back !) combo could produce plenty of goal opportunities from the left.

You are Kevin maher and I claim my £5

I too have chosen to use Bridgey as an impact sub, selected Crowther and pushed Ralph out wide to LWB. Started Morton instead of Wes and Dackers and Cards up front.

My thoughts are most teams use 2 to gang up on bridge, if he doesn't come out for the first half they have to restructure during the game. Morton to play as a Deep Lying playmaker alongside and as an outlet for Cav and Husin to push further forward, with instructions to shoot when the opportunity arises, and seek out those opportunities.

Dackers and Cards to be on the receiving end of Morton's longer balls forward and we have more than enough ability to keep possession and still seek out defence splitting passes to open them up. Still having plenty of options in Danny, Bridgey, Wes and Jack Wood to make an impact from the bench.

the rest remain unchanged from Saturday.

Just my thoughts.

Any team that has watched us will be expecting us to work it down the left using Wes and Bridge. How about we start without either? I'm hesitant to say use Ralph at LWB as he's been so great at LCB but Crowther is meant to be good in the air, so why not. With Cards and Waldron up top we need to get the ball into the box. It was mentioned that Wood could/should play the attacking MF role so why not start him there. He might be the one to feed balls into feet through the middle and take set pieces. Strong bench with options if we had to switch it up (bit risky with no defenders).

Collin
Gus - Taylor - Kensdale - Crowther - Ralph
Miley - Husin
Wood
Waldron - Cardwell

Subs - Sandat, Fonguck, Dackers, Morton, Bridge
Not Wood. Morton MUST play!
