A magnificent win for the Mighty Blues against Chertsey Town, who incidentally are only 56 places lower than us.
A win is definitely a win though after the week we have had at the club and with half of the squad missing.
Has the Worm turned?
Well done Demi the players and of course Stan. On to the next round for another giant killing.
Over to you people.
A win is a win and breeds confidence. You could see confidence was lacking after a slow start going 1 down after 5 minutes, and almost 2 after 8 minutes. After we managed to get back in at 1-1, Stan came down, put his arm around a few players and raised their confidence with a few positive words. Credit to him for that.
There were some positive performances today. Our full backs had a good game and what a header from Ralph. Egbri caused them many problems and put in a shift. I was very impressed with Harry Phillips who was always looking for forward positive passes into spaces. Louis Walsh impressed when he came on and took his goal well.
The best player on the pitch for me was Sam Dalby, won almost every ball in the air up front, brilliant hold up play always a threat. I've been really impressed with him, but he needs players to run into those spaces he knocks balls into or its wasted. Murphy for me isn't that player, bit he worked hard.
I'd also like to see much more from Jack Bridge. He can take players on but he needs to know when to release the ball, and when he doesn't have the ball he needs to run into the space and use his voice like Egbri does.
Ferguson also needs to do more. He has presence but should be dominating the middle a lot more, protecting Phillips more who does not have the physical presence, but plenty of ability.
I managed to speak to almost all the team after individually and it's clear they need support and confidence. There are a lot of youngsters and my first impression was that many are quite shy in character. We need a player to come in and shake them up, a leader, whilst also building their confidence. Whoever comes in does have a big job to do, but certainly has some talent to work with.
I don't think there is a leader currently for enough to play. Certainly not White or Coulson. Though I like Dimi, and think he still has something to offer in the squad, he is not a big enough voice. S good experience for him today, but let's be honest, Collymore had more influence today.
A good win, and hopefully the start of a run IF we get the right management team in, and a ball winning leader.
