Post-Match Thread and Ratings Southend United 3-1 Halifax Town

Buzzing for Kendall. Was a bit worried at half time that his hard work wouldn't be rewarded. He seemed to be unsure of himself when in shooting positions. There was one he missed and he looked devastated. Carried on working hard though and got his rewards. I really likeable player

Bonne worked his socks off when he came on and allowed others more space because of it, thought he more than done his bit tonight - so idiots like the ones you mention need to open their eyes!
They have no clue about what they are watching- they just remember all the keyboard warriors giving Bonne a hard time and haven’t the awareness or intelligence to adapt based on what he actually does on the pitch…shame those around them can’t gently explain to them that they are making idiots of themselves…

Was clapping team off at end and random guy says to me "You can tell Maher has lost the dressing room; they are just not playing for him"!
I worry we have too many supporters who are only happy when we are sh*t!
Anyone else think he has lost the dressing room as it looked like thay ran their Nuts off for him tonight!

This is why many of us have been saying we're a better team than we have shown, and why is better when we are on the front foot.

We hardly have Halifax a sniff.

Please no more defensive set up, and keep Ralph away from LWB!

Though Morton made a few bad passes in the first half, thought he did excellent again and still baffles me he gets left out, when he's been our best midfielder by far this season.
TBF I think Ralph is seen as LCB first- but if Bridge is unavailable/carrying a knock we don’t really have an alternative?

I suspect he was displaying a dry sense of humour…

That was a really good performance against a top away side in this division - only their third loss away from home this season. Makes you wonder why we can’t play like that against the lesser sides in the division.

Great to see Kendall and Hopper open their accounts for the season for the club. Goodliffe looks a good CB and the kind of ****house player we’ve missed at the centre of the back three. It’s nice to see us scoring from set plays instead of just conceding from them.

Shame about the goal we conceded, not sure if it deflected but looked soft going through Hayes but two great saves from the corners after that. Really made amends for the goal conceded. Enjoyed seeing him time-waste at 2-0 like we see so many opposition keepers do.

Plenty of positives to take into Saturday - hopefully the curse of the Saturday 3pm can be put aside for that one.

Just back. Well, at HT I think I posted that we needed more intensity and we got that in spades. Pressing, forcing errors, on the front foot and not giving their defenders any time to relax. This is how we should play every week but … for some reason things haven’t clicked and the consistency hasn’t been there. This was chalk and cheese compared to the last 2 games. The challenge is maintaining it.

Hayes was very good and pulled off an amazing save at one point. Goodliffe improved after a shaky first half. Husin grew into the game also, he needs to stop giving them the ball and do more dancing past players. Our best performances do seem to be when Noor and Bridge start, though some won’t like that. I do like Morton, he can deliver a ball. Bonne looked hungry when he came on and helped us see out the victory.

Goals for Hopper and Kendall will give them confidence and hopefully with 2 more home games following tonight we can put some points on the board and get a nice little run going. Then who knows.

Oh and Parillon looks class but let’s not have a Moncur style thread about him just yet 😅

Commentators said Morton is only player to have played in every game this season

Lots of effort and huff and puff tonight from everyone. No signs of an unhappy dressing room at all. There are still signs of a lack of confidence, and you could see that change after the first goal went in. Lovely to see some flicks, tricks and skills as the game came to a close (especially Noor’s pirouette right in front of me 😃😃).

Maher absolutely still full of desire and passion. It’s easy when in the West to forget just how much he kicks every ball with the players and barks instructions constantly all match. I was in the East tonight and it’s a great place to hear just how much goes into coaching the team the whole 90mins. Lots of encouragement from him tonight and also let the players know in no uncertain terms when they failed to be where he wanted them. Tactics and subs spot in too.

Tonight, the key for me was the hard work of the front three. Closed as a threesome and worked together tirelessly. It’s really does set the tone for the rest of the team.

UTB!!

Much much better. Need to follow that up Saturday now. Nick Hayes ****ing loves it. Maher reaction at full time I think was more relief than anything and fair play to him he got it right tonight, deserves that reaction. Thought everyone worked so hard tonight . Very happy
