Post-Match Thread and Ratings Southend United 3-1 Halifax Town

Much better, keep the three up front and keep going at teams and we will have a decent end to the season and Kev will get the time he needs.

If he goes back to 2 on Saturday...just sack him before the team sheet has to be submitted 😂

Great to win 3-1, but I'm certainly not getting carried away.
Up until we finally put in a decent corner and Gus followed up to head home, I thought we were bang average and hadn't really looked like scoring. In fact it looked a guaranteed 0-0.

Suddenly though, it was as though the confidence had returned and the pressure had been lifted from many of the players.
The tempo became quicker, our passing was quicker and more crisp and there was also some show boating from both young Leon and Husin for good measure. We finally saw some shots on goal and players were on the move and linking up far better.

Having said that, at 2-1, we suddenly looked really fragile again defensively, before out of nowhere Charlie Kendall raced away to finish clinically after a long ball up field was flicked on by Bonne. Didn't he enjoy winding up their centre back as we celebrated!

Even then Nick Hayes pulled off a couple of fine stops from close range following some goal mouth scrambles.

They key now is to follow this up with two more front foot performances and two more victories at home. After so many disappointing home performances this season, I can't say I'm feeling confident that'll happen. I'm hoping the players can take some confidence from tonight and prove me wrong.

Much improved - quite impressive bar that cockup defensively but the response to that was good so just forget about it and move on imo.

A shame some idiots towards the back of Block V took it upon themselves to boo and jeer Bonne when coming on and spend the rest of the game making *very* funny comments about him. Don’t get the point of behaviour like this at all, doesn’t help anyone.

That aside a very good result
They’re not supporters are they- like to see them do the same down a dark alley to his face- would immediately wet themselves. Where are the parents?

Awful first half but really good in the 2nd kendal looked good tonight and hopefully his goal will push him on now.I think bonne is a very good intelligent player and always looks for the right pass.Parillion looks a player and needs to start in front of hussin who offers very little. You know exactly what u are going to get from hopper and with the right delivery and service he will definitely get goals in this league! Nick Hayes a massive improvement on colin 👏

This is why many of us have been saying we're a better team than we have shown, and why is better when we are on the front foot.

We hardly have Halifax a sniff.

Please no more defensive set up, and keep Ralph away from LWB!

Though Morton made a few bad passes in the first half, thought he did excellent again and still baffles me he gets left out, when he's been our best midfielder by far this season.

Nuts to play so terribly then so well.

Paul clarke summed it up, we can forgive a loss if the team show the same amount of effort and desire as tonight.

We have to play with 3 up top always and go for it, make teams fear us again.

Hooooooper and kendal getting on the scoresheet is massive.

@Billy Bests boot laces all the best to you mate, stay strong.
You're the kitman who printed Hoppers shirt and I claim my £5

So we continue the Tuesday evening winning run.

Presume they travel from the north on match day. First 20 minutes we struggled to cope but the passing and shooting was grim. There’s more to football than running around as fast as you can. We got on top and started dominating but neither side looked like scoring.

Finally got two decent corners in and 2 goals. They went and pulled one back from our corner when they out sprinted us. (Not hard). Does everyone still want to leave out Gus - he’s the only one with a strikers instinct in the box.

Kendall finally managed to score - a good flick on from Macauley.
Halifax had two great chances and somehow we fortunately keep them out

I’ve been grumbling about our dark blue shirts for years. So nice to have a bright blue kit even though it was just for 45 minutes. You could actually see everyone all over the pitch.

Leon looked good - actually lifted his head to pass to a team mate rather than the knock it and hope.

So Saturday would logically be the same side but….
